Astrological Influences, September 2023: Retrieving Our Path

By Crystal Pomeroy

General Astrological Influences September 2023

The stars of September support us in retrieving our own authentic path—and working to ground it.

At September’s inception, we have seven planets retrograde or in shadow, including all the outer, transpersonal orbs. Retrogrades turn energy inward, giving us an opportunity to expand our consciousness, to reset ourselves and our lives. When moving backward, the outer planets release us from outer criteria, guiding us to define and find our own version of meaning.

Two personal planets, Venus and Mercury, are also in retrograde and shadow. Since early June, Venus has been going back and forth in Leo.  We’re getting a look at what resonates with our heart energy, values, and self-esteem. Sun in Virgo increases our practical sense and helps us find what actually works. Like the discerning virgin who symbolically sorts the harvest, Virgo can see what’s too much, what’s a drain, what’s good, and what we can do to work with what we have.

Later in the month, Sun moves into Libra. This is a more dynamic, harmonious energy. Does this mean there’ll be less work? Not if we notice that Libra’s ruler Venus, as well as  Mercury, will still be in shadow retrograde and in Virgo, the sign of fix-it.

So the new Fall season is not entirely new, but carries things we’ve been chewing on for some time… and moves us to continue building the daily structure and relationships that resonate with our dreams. What ongoing purpose and intentions do you feel are still important? What nitty-gritty situations could help you achieve them? Now is the time to reconnect with our vision and stand fast. Now is the time to restructure our daily situations so it can take shape.

As the month begins, we are thinking about how to build for what we want. On Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2, we’re on the still-active portal of the August 30 Full Moon in Pisces, sign of spirit. Usually, the Pisces Full Moon balances the Virgo Sun by keeping our dreams alive. This time, it conjoins Saturn, planet of work, imbuing our imagination with a practical focus. It’s worth heeding the inner nudge to sit down, write out ideas to reorganize, and set up a propitious context to ground our soul’s calling. With Mercury retrograde, the spotlight is on ideas we have already tried and can now retrieve or persist with.

From this clarity, we can direct our interactions in support of this intention, reaching out to others with whom we can team up, and/or finding new ways to steer clear of connections that drain us. Venus’ retrograde in Leo is helping restructure our interactions in resonance with our light path, while Mercury retrograde in Virgo, earth sign of its rule, supports persisting with solutions to practical concerns, as does Sun in Virgo. What do we need for wellness, order and growth? What changes in our daily habits will facilitate this?

The week beginning on Sunday, September 3 is full of opportunity, thanks to a portal triggered by the two benefics turning to station: on Sunday, Venus turns direct, and on Monday, Jupiter stations to retrograde. When a planet stations, its energies are intensified, as though it were digging its heels into the star-scape.

Venus, planet of relationship and finance, is still in shadow, moving us to assimilate and reaffirm the changes we’ve been wanting for the last couple of months in the areas of love, relationship, opulence, values, spending, self-esteem, beautification, and connections with others. As for Jupiter, he receives a trine from Mercury the messenger just when he stations. This sends the planet of publicity on his retrograde with clear mental senses, accenting his already notable gift of gab and breathing new life into a campaign or a project of communication, publicity, sales or teaching that we had started sometime previously.

With Jupiter retrograde for the next four months, our search for….
