Gemini’s ruler Mercury is in retrograde and shadow through Sunday, June 19, followed on Tuesday, June 21 by the entrance of Sun into Cancer. Retrogrades direct an influence inward. As for moonchild Cancer, like the crab who comes out at low tide when the day is still dark, she’s protective of her secret world. Psychic Neptune also lights the subtle realms, especially in his home sign of Pisces. Usually, Gemini is eager to find a listener. But for most of the month, we’ll feel more like talking to ourselves, to the fey, and to light beings.
June also brings a strong urge to grow. The midmonth Full Moon in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, planet of education and expansion. Sagittarius isn’t exactly introverted, nor is Aries where Luna’s ruler Jupiter currently transits. On June 21, Sun enters Cancer. In the chart for the Summer Solstice, beneficent aspects indicate a summer of opportunities for improvement of our attitudes, relationships, and finances. The cusp of Gemini-Cancer combines the strengths of the last two personal signs—our thoughts and imagination join to make a special window. We momentarily escape the clutches of the collective mindset and slip into a magical garden, filled with fairies, nature beings, and in the northernmost regions, midnight Sun. Charged with Cancerian emotion, our Geminin words light up with the power to incarnate anew.
The month closes with another sensitive portal: the New Moon in Cancer. Like all water signs, the crab accentuates our inner life. In contrast to Scorpio’s impulse to deepen and transform, and that of Pisces, who opens us to the world of dreams and the unconscious, Cancer’s cardinal, dynamic impulse is to imagine, nurture, and feel something into manifestation. Cancer is a sign of growth, and so is the planet Jupiter, in the spotlight at the last New Moon of the month. The Sabian symbol for this lunation is summed up by its keyword, “LEARNING.”
