2020 has taken humanity on an unusual ride, opening an evolutionary window. November brings opportunities to consolidate some of the progress we’ve made. Sun, Mercury and Venus in Scorpio, support deep focus on our goals for change. These harmonize with the stellium of Pluto, Jupiter, Saturn and Pallas, an alignment that throughout most of the pandemic has pushed us into facing, accepting, and working with change. When, towards the end of the month, we move into Sagittarius season, the transformation theme continues, focusing on our thought processes and what we share with the world.
Towards mid-month, expansive Jupiter makes its final conjunction to Pluto before romping ahead out of Capricorn. This conjunction brings opportunities to consolidate the process of empowerment that has been going on since 2008, when the dark lord of the solar system first entered Capricorn, sign of mastery. Three dynamic lunations offer cosmic support for a major shift in frequency that can have positive results in our spiritual and material lives.
Scorpio is the sign of change, of endings, of renewal and of power. Like autumn leaves that fall to fertilize the ground, transformation requires endings. According to brain science, we are biologically programmed to resist change, particularly when it requires work on our part. Yet to allow transformation is to allow renewal, and ultimately, empowerment.
Ruled by Pluto, Scorpio season plays a special role this year. In its slow journey through late Capricorn, the planet of change has broadened its powers as it acquires an imposing entourage made up of demanding Saturn, expansive Jupiter, and strategic Pallas Athena. Pluto’s inexorable effects have forever altered structures: politics, finances and the very structure of apparent reality. For those who have lost lives or loved ones to Covid, the death part of the Pluto experience has been literal. We have all experienced major transitions of one kind or another.
Ancient peoples understood endings to be beginnings. Samhain—the pagan origin of Halloween—was actually the Celtic New Year, and the Day of the Dead was the most important, vivid, and colorful holiday in ancient Mexico. The feast day for Xochiquetzal, goddess of healers, transmutation and midwives, was also in autumn.
These archetypes remind us of the role our perception plays in how we experience change. From a metaphysical perspective, if we think change is potentially harmful, we are at the mercy of circumstances. If we anchor our attention in the force of infinite good that works through all situations, challenges can be transformed into positive experiences.
As the November begins, we are still on the portal of a Samhain Full Moon in Taurus that was exact on Saturday, October 31. Taurus has to do with prosperity, self-esteem, and values. Uranus the liberator is traversing the sign of the bull, intensifying Pluto’s processes as it brings surprises in these areas that are so basic to our security and wellbeing. If we keep our minds open to new ways of approaching these goals, we can ground some of their benefits.
Right on Tuesday, November 3, which is Election Day in the US, Mercury stations to turn direct. We can expect a shift in collective attention. The messenger planet will still be in storm, spotlighting things that were initiated before September 23 and suggesting that there may be a prolonged controversy around the results of the elections, a controversy continuing until after Friday, November 20, when Mercury finally emerges from post-retrograde shadow.
Mercury’s is not the only influence that makes this Tuesday special. A quincunx from Venus, in Libra, sign of justice, to rebellious Uranus indicates some sort of challenge involving the law. More than one faction will feel that their freedoms are being threatened. Despite the monumental stakes involved in these elections and the saturation of media we expect with Moon in Gemini, if we can focus on our personal goals for business and healing, the latter will go well.
Prayers and meditation for divine justice and love will help offset the continuing frictions indicated by Mercury’s square to Saturn on Friday, November 6, and a quincunx from Sun in brave Scorpio to co-ruler Mars in warrior-sign Aries on Saturday, November 7. With Mercury and Venus in social signs Scorpio and Libra, and Mars and Saturn in cardinal Aries and Capricorn, we will see a continuation of the themes of negotiation and freedom from co-dependence that were seeded at last month’s New Moon in Libra.
Moon’s Last Quarter begins on Sunday, November 8. However dramatic the prevailing political, sanitary, and social circumstances may seem, the transits of this lunar week are high on creativity, angelic vibrations and opportunities to consolidate the positive potential of Pluto’s transit through Capricorn. This transit has been moving us to evolve in certain areas of our charts and lives since the power-planet entered Capricorn in 2008.
