The Eclipse buzz is intensified by the planetary reiteration of the Pisces-Aries cusp, pulling us over the most intuitive point at the end of the zodiac, and onto the most dynamic point, at the very beginning. March always activates this cusp, but this is not your usual Spring experience. Yes, Sun triggers it. But so do Venus and Mercury, the latter twice. And most importantly, Neptune—planet of dreams, of dissolution and of magic—spends the month in the last degree of Pisces, until March 30, when the mystical planet makes his first ingress in Aries since 1861, marking a new generation.
Secrets, good and bad, come to the fore. We awaken to find ourselves wiggling in a net of dreams. It’s a messy mix, including beautiful treasures that we’ve pulled up from the realm of magic, what seem to be broken pieces of art-turned garbage, and dangerous ropes that try to hold us in: bonds of fantasy, of addiction, of passivity and of the dreams of others.
Although the following example may seem cryptic, the history around Neptune’s last transit on this cusp seems pertinent. One day after that ingress in 1861, forces that had been churning in the dark while Neptune was in Pisces erupted in full view as the Civil War broke out. The planet of mystery rules hidden and foreign influences, and during its last transit through Pisces, Britain had been scheming to support the Confederacy. Now, on the doorstep of Neptune’s next emergence from Pisces, we see an eruption of forces that have been churning in the dark (including but not limited to the previous Trump term), and some sources say, fueled by foreign interests.
Not everything going on after the mid-1800s was evil, nor is it now. Neptune’s placement in Pisces has other, very high octaves that include group compassion and the emergence of spiritual trends and movements. Actually, when the planet was discovered in 1847, it was transiting Pisces, sign of its domicile, a transit that saw the unfolding of the spirituality movement—especially in the US. Audacious, non-sectarian movements like spiritualism and Theosophy were coalescing. Phineas Quimby, considered the father of mentalist metaphysics, was teaching and healing. Emma Curtis Hopkins, “forgotten founder of New Thought,” was born in 1949.
When Neptune entered Aries, these tendencies boiled into view. In 1861 Mary Baker Eddy began her discipleship with Quimby. Their relationship eventually led to Eddy’s founding the popular Christian Science Church, from which many metaphysical organizations later surged. Philosopher Rudolph Steiner, founder of Anthroposophy, was born in 1861. Helena Blavatsky, Steiner’s early teacher, and the leading esoteric thinker of her times, began her famous work that was later published as The Letters of H.P. Blavatsky, 1861-1879. Also during this transit, people, mostly women, took up the spirituality movement and ran with it. Today’s archetype of the empowered seeker was in large part seeded during that transit, that reverberated and cross-pollinated around the planet. Modern results include the large-scale practice of personal spirituality, manifestation, healing, channeling, eastern-western synergy, ancestral wisdom, and contacts with angels and light beings.
This is a high-vibrational expression of Neptune moving into Aries, as are heroic figures who—as did the 19thcentury abolitionists—speak out against inhumane policies. Athletes are ruled by Aries, and Chris Kluwe, former punter for the Minnesota Vikings, was in the news after his arrest for interrupting a council meeting to speak against MAGA’s inhumane policies. Curiously, at 2 degrees Capricorn, Kluwe’s Sun triggers the critical Aries point activated on this cusp. At the beginning of all cardinal signs, this point is considered one of the most powerful in the zodiac and will be reiterated at the Spring Equinox, and by several planets in March as mentioned above.
Bernie Sanders, another hero who’s currently speaking up, has his Mercury at 2 Libra. The current heroes are not only compassionate, they are doers, as were analogous figures from the Civil War: Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas and the newly minted female nursing corps who, inspired by Florence Nightengale, attended wounded soldiers on the battlefield. (Nightingale’s birth chart has three planets at the Aries point, including Neptune and Chiron, and Pluto at 28 Pisces.)
