Astrological Influences October 2024: Swept Out of Our Ruts

By Crystal Pomeroy

A colorful abstract painting with swirls and waves in shades of purple, blue, pink, and orange, adorned with white specks resembling stars, evokes the general influences of October 2024.

With Sun in Libra, sign of one-on-one connection, and then in Scorpio, sign of intimacy and joint creations, October is a month of relationships. This month, these relationships become more pivotal than usual in our processes of change.

Last month was marked a highly unusual minor grand trine of outer planets that were triggered by two intense lunations and transits from personal planets Mercury, Venus and Mars. The tendency continues, with this month’s lunations in Libra, sign of others, and Aries, sign of self, triggering changes in our relational dynamics.

Scorpio´s ruler Pluto turns direct for the last time in Capricorn, sign of tradition, uncovering dark secrets about things that seemed immovable. Libra’s ruler Venus is in Scorpio, sign of change, facilitating deep connection that intensifies intimacy and emotional needs, and leads to transformation of our love nature. As ruler of Venus, Pluto also disposits the Sun and Eclipse in Libra. As this planet of power changes all things Capricorn, it will also rework and renew our close connections, from partnerships, to marriage, to ties with the public, to agreements and negotiations. Like leaves falling from autumn trees, situations that seemed firm and secure suddenly lose their hold. The attitudes and ties that have run their course will begin to give way to a new period of growth.

We start the month on the portal of the October 2 Solar Eclipse in Libra. This is a New Moon, facilitating a new start. It’s accompanied by the appearance of comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, bringing in new information.

However, the Moon activates the South Node, related to the past, asking us to give something up before we move ahead. In conjunction with Lilith, archetype of disruption, autonomy and dark secrets, and also with messenger Mercury, this lunation brings to light things that have been repressed or hidden, and it interrupts communications, thought patterns and agreements that have us in a rut. The rut could involve codependence, people-pleasing, repressing our inmost desires, a soul-contract that has run its course, an agreement that´s become draining—any repetitive self-dialogue or interactions that are undermining our power or stealing our joy.

What do we have to give up? In harmony-seeking Libra and with Pluto poised to finish a 20-year trip through stable Capricorn, it can be the paralysis of complacency, or some type of …
