In its own very unique way, August is an active month. On the one hand, the stars push for progress. The conjunction that’s been building between leader Mars and expansive Jupiter reaches its peak, pressing us to move forward rapidly. With both planets in Gemini, there’s a strong impulse to share our ideas. Sun in expressive Leo is all for that. Also, Venus—goddess of love and values—connects with cutting-edge Uranus, triggering us to find freer ways of relating and prospering.
At the same time, Saturn—planet of blockage—has set up some roadblocks along the way. Mercury the messenger is retrograde, spotlighting the past, and will back up into its own picky earth sign Virgo, where it will want to check thing repeatedly before giving a green light.
We’re impelled to say things we’ve begun sharing before in a sort of hot-and-cold, on-and-off-again way. These things relate to our personal role in the evolutionary cycle of freedom promoted by Pluto the powerful since entering Aquarius in January. We feel like we can and must do this, and we definitely get going. But it turns out we can’t just fly ahead. We’re made to stop, review, restructure, reorganize, and discern our voice. We think we’re rushing off to a galactic party, but instead, the stars invite us to sit down and chew what we’ve already bitten off.
The month starts on a portal of renewal, as relational Venus squares rebel Uranus on August 2. Our values, relationships and finances are shaken free of constraints into new, lighter code. Our personal inclinations, and/or a sudden event, impel us to abandon familiar routines and love, create and earn in new ways. A new love may appear, or reappear from the past in a new way. We are apt to reject what seems stale or limiting, but whatever happens can fuel our most daring directions. This connection also empowers our original self-expression, enriching creative works. With Mercury in pre-retrograde shadow then retrograde, the spotlight is on refreshing directions that are not totally new, in resonance with the path of power we’ve been on since Pluto entered Aquarius, ruled by Uranus and disposited by Venus (as ruler of Uranus in Taurus). We can persist in our intention to vacate unauthentic roles and to renew our field of interaction. We are sparked to fully pursue the most cutting-edge direction in our work and investments, including virtual communications, AI, new research, global networking, crypto, spiritual healing, and idealistic activities.
The Venus-Uranus square on August 2 is the first of two transpersonal bundles or close series of aspects that Venus makes this month. Just two days later, the goddess planet makes a quincunx to mystical Neptune, followed the next day by another to intense Pluto. This chain of contacts increases the creative, romantic and cosmic energy of the New Moon in Leo, which is exact on Sunday, August 4, and serves to upgrade the expression of the divine feminine. This lunation, in sextile to active Mars and vociferous Jupiter, brings a burst of self-expression. Venus’ activity fuels creativity and social connectivity.
Another intriguing aspect is the opposition between Moon and asteroid Chariklo. Chariklo was the mythical wife of Chiron. Astrologically, she represents unconditional love and a feminine side of healing. The largest centaur (a class of small bodies) in our solar system, she awakens our kindness and our desire to be a supportive influence, bringing supernatural relief to the wounds illuminated by Chiron. Chariklo is also related to Pluto, having conjoined the planet of power for two years and preceded his ingress into Aquarius. She opened the way to share our healing energy with humanity and as part of a larger, Aquarian network of those who share this intention.
Now, at the August 4 Leo New Moon, Mars and Jupiter in Gemini have us feeling somehow rushed to share our ideas or message. Chariklo’s presence reflects the healing energy of kindness behind this impulse, while Mercury retrograde points to a means of expression we’ve previously put in motion. This lunation brings enthusiasm, passion, and opportunities to promote, campaign for, sell, and talk about our ideas.
Later on Sunday, August 4, love planet Venus enters Virgo. This placement can be stressful, as critical Virgo can inhibit our expression of love. However, it also focuses our values on work and healing, a welcome anchor in these days and weeks when restless Mars is romping with wild Jupiter in distracted Gemini.
