Astrological Influences May 2024: The Abundant Alchemist

We’ve been in the throes of great change since Pluto’s definitive ingress into Aquarius in January 2024. Moving through the Eclipse portals of March and April, our world been exciting. This doesn’t mean easy. Demanding planets Pluto, Uranus, Saturn and Mars have been coming on strong, making for a lurching kind of progress: invigorating but somewhat nerve-wracking with an atmosphere of uncertainty. Thankfully, May’s stars make our pathway firmer.

The two benefics, Venus and Jupiter, are important to this shift. Together they fill us with love, charm, protection and abundance. Venus is the #1 Diva. The goddess planet starts the month in Taurus, the earth sign she rules. Sun, Jupiter, Uranus and the New Moon are also in Taurus now. Venus is involved with most of the major transits, plays center-stage at the two major lunations, and in her own sign for most of the month, is the final dispositor of several planets, including omnipresent Pluto.

As for protective, expansive Jupiter, the other benefic, he also stars in the major lunations, ruling the wonderful Flower Moon. His conjunction with innovative Uranus, exact last month, is reactivated by the May 7 New Moon. During May, he gets kissed by radiant Sun and beautiful Venus, and while still in firm Taurus, sextiles mystical, compassionate Neptune.

Before the month ends, both Venus and Jupiter enter Gemini, unleashing the river of words we have been holding back for the past intense months. By the time Gemini is activated by the Sun and the two benefics, Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, will have fully left retrograde shadow, giving a green light to communications, study, teaching, purchasing, interchanges, and movements of all kinds. The social landscape will be buzzing like an outdoors market on a bright, spring day.

Yet not all ideas will be exchanged in the light of the Sun. Pluto, whose reign as underground king has been reasserted this month by his May 2 retrograde station and a May 1 square from Venus, will receive harmonies from both Venus and Jupiter (newly in Gemini, sign of perception) before the month ends. Our mission, if we choose to accept it, is to awaken our inner powers with Pluto’s new codes of light.

Venus isn’t all sweetness. On Wednesday, May 1 she kicks off the month by squaring powerful Pluto. This tension can have an unsavory side—power struggles, obsessions, manipulation—but it’s also strengthening. We are resetting our love nature to eliminate acquiescent, passive tendencies and get the kind of treatment we want, starting with our own self-valuation. We can now look at sabotaging tendencies, release ties and interactions that no longer resonate, and move out of collusion in destructive dynamics that affect others, either actively or as passive observers. Our sight is being cleared to look at and disengage from shadowy interchanges in general, including judgmentalism.
