April 2022 is an evolutionary portal. What astrological influences come into play? We get two New Moons, boosting our initiative and supporting the power of our intent. Venus, planet of love and values, is in the spotlight. She makes several important aspects, weaving her golden strands throughout April’s tapestry. She will rule the Sun after it enters Taurus, and rules two major lunations: the Libra Full Moon of Easter Weekend that brings renewal to our relationships, and the Solar Eclipse in Taurus that closes the month and spotlights new directions for abundance.
The goddess planet will be moving into Pisces, sign of romance and compassion, as will Mars, planet of action, joining a historic lineup in this twelfth sign. The key planets in this configuration are Jupiter and Neptune. This will be their first conjunction in Pisces, the sign they both rule, since 1856. It is also the only union between outer planets that takes place during 2022. Both planets relate to angels, to cosmic kindness, to faith, and to beliefs. Together they form a special portal to connect with the light beings that are all around us, to choose higher beliefs and to move onto a higher frequency of love.
Not that everything will be sweet. The dual doors of otherworldly Pisces can open to heaven or to a madhouse. Hypnotic Neptune and publicist Jupiter, like the mass media they rule, can sugarcoat dubious fruit and disguise fantasy as faith. As for April’s major lunations, harvesting their support takes work. Their blessings call for evolutionary and possibly challenging collaboration.
Towards the end of the month, the direct-planet roll we’ve been on since late February ends as Mercury enters pre-retrograde shadow. A couple of days later, powerful Pluto goes retrograde, heading back towards the US natal Pluto. It will re-trigger this point exactly this summer, making a sextile to Biden’s Sun, which aspects the US Pluto to the degree. The planet of power will go back and forth over these points through December, 2022 and into 2023, which suggests that the conflict in Europe—and U.S. involvement—will also continue.
The month starts off on Friday, April 1 with a New Moon whose masculine energies are all about work. This Moon, in pioneering Aries, supports a truly new beginning. In sextile to ruler Mars and taskmaster Saturn, it offers opportunities to organize, strategize for, and ground what we want to start.
It’s worth the effort to provoke a pause, reconnect with our goals, and design an action plan that we can set in motion at this portal. April’s Pisces alignments are sweet and dreamy but potentially slippery, and this lunation’s strength can help us get a solid foothold in daily habits that will keep us on the high side of these influences—and on track with our priorities.
In the chart for the New Moon, Mars and Saturn are conjunct, an aspect that shouts “Work!” and perfects on Tuesday, April 4, extending the New Moon portal’s energy through the first full week of April.
If we plan on making some kind of big change, the first two weeks of the month are best. After this, we’ll be closing in on the end-of-month Solar Eclipse portal, and we’ll want to avoid forcing outer situations. And, on Saturday, April 23, Mercury enters pre-retrograde shadow, propitious for redoing, reviewing and renewing things that we set in motion any time before that date, rather than starting something completely new.
On Wednesday, April 5, Venus slips into Pisces, softening our love style. Compassion prevails over the rebellious, independent flavor of her stay in Aquarius. Creativity and romance flow, as does prosperity for those involved in the arts and professions related to intuition, spirituality and healing. The beginning of this transit—during Moon’s First Quarter—are a great time to renew a practice of visualization in the areas of love and money, then sustain the practice throughout the month. We can also use this time to transmute our beliefs around love and money in preparation for the upcoming Full Moon in Libra, sign of partnership, and the end-of-month Solar Eclipse in Taurus, sign of supply.
On Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8, messenger Mercury reactivates the recent New Moon as it sextiles assertive Mars and organized Saturn. Mars and Saturn are still in close company and these sextiles support follow-up on communications related to our New Moon intentions and the work efforts and organization we’ve put together during this portal.
