The month begins on the pagan fest of Lammas, a time to bless the first loaves of the year in expression of thanks and so that they can multiply. This dramatic, radiant ceremony is perfect in the heart of Leo season (read more about Leo here), when we can apply creativity, positive recognition, and fun as we let our light shine. The light of Lammas is particularly bright, on Sunday, August 1, as Sun joins Mercury the messenger, expanding the light of our words, self-expression and ideas.
Sometimes the lion can get carried away with its light. This time, motivated Mars and sweet Venus—planets of the life forces that keep us going—are in diligent Virgo, supporting the dedication and follow-through to apply our radiance in practical, productive, helpful ways. As they transit Virgo, these planets of the sacred masculine and feminine will make trines to Uranus the rebel, softening the effects of Uranus’ square to Saturn, and facilitating our access to the new financial opportunities generated by Uranus as it transits Taurus, sign of abundance.
As for this month’s New and Full moons, these two creative, humanistic lunations precipitate change, union and positive collaboration. And Mercury, like Sun, transits Leo. Through Thursday, August 12, the messenger planet will hold our attention in big, radiant ideas as it continues its leonine travels.
On the other hand, both also oppose Saturn in Aquarius. The planet of work is retrograde in Aquarius, sign of knowledge. If something seems to block your ease of expression, don’t doubt your light. Rather, ask yourself how you can apply your knowledge and talents more deeply, then regroup to do so.
