We move more fully into the arms of Fall, season of change. With Sun in the sign of beautiful Libra, leaves, once green, turn yellow, brown and purple. As they drop to the ground, they’re swept away by rakes, brooms, winds, and Earth’s alchemical processes. The stars of October call us to cleanse our inner landscape and reach a new and deeper level of wellness and empowerment.
In the Northern hemisphere, the air begins to cool and we feel inclined to seek warmth in company of others. As the month begins, Sun in Libra allows our social skills to wax along with the Moon phase. Yet things aren’t quite so simple as they seem. On Thursday, October 3, Mercury—planet of connection—begins a long sojourn through Scorpio, sign of shadows. This month it will also be in pre-retrograde and retrograde modes. Rather than fueling new connections and alliances, our attention is directed inward and in review, reconnection, reorganization, and reworking of existing ties.
Despite Libra’s fantasy of stasis, other influences are pulling us to face the need for change: Mercury’s intensity, Pluto’s station and turn direct, and Uranus, planet of innovation, opposing the messenger planet, as well as Venus and Sun.
Neptune, planet of psychism and angels, receives trines from this same trio: spiritual guidance flows.
Mercury in Scorpio will lose the social finesse it had in Libra, but in exchange, it will strengthen our intuition and BS detectors. On Wednesday, October 2, Scorpio’s ruler Pluto stations direct, bringing to light the processes that have been unfolding in our subconscious for the last five months and, in combination with Mercury in the sign of shadow, accentuating our interest in secrets.
Things that had been hidden will come into view. On a personal level, what may have been a quiet longing for inner change will become an imperative. On the collective scale, the inquiries into the presidency will remain in the forefront. To the degree we play an active role, these experiences will ultimately be empowering.
This unfolding also may take more time than we hoped for. Also on Thursday, October 3, Mars enters Libra, softening the warrior planet’s style to what may seem to be a frustrating degree. We may be overly concerned with diplomacy and hesitant to take direct, timely action.
One strategy that can help us work through this block is to keep an Empowering Change Journal. In the morning, write down the results you want in your processes of change, followed by a step—even a small one—you can take during the day. At night, review your progress, connect again with your desired results and ask your guardian angel or spirit guide/s to reveal what else you can do and move you to act.
If we can start with this or another type of daily change follow-up, we’ll be prepared for the first of October’s oppositions to Uranus that—if we’ve been trying to stay on automatic pilot and ignore the urgings of our souls—may have a shaking effect.
The first opposition comes on Sunday, October 6, from Mercury. It can open our perception and precipitate displays of brilliance. A message, transmission, or communication may trigger a new look at our beliefs around security. On a collective scale, an idea that contradicts the science of climate change is apt to surge and ultimately lead to greater popular awareness.
On Tuesday, October 8, Venus enters Scorpio. Remember, the planet of love is currently ruling Mars, Scorpio’s co-ruler. This mutual reception brings a certain intensity to our relationships: they will become a testing ground for our efforts towards inner change. This shift is great for therapy, especially couple’s therapy and groups to recover from love addiction and co-dependence. It favors transformative communication, negotiation, brainstorming, and deep connections in general. It can also be rather hypnotic, and if we’re not willing to work on ourselves, can set off obsessive attractions, co-dependence, and denial about what we really want from others or our subconscious, hidden agendas.
If we can renew our commitment to look, a glance within will be revealing—particularly after….
