Building for Self-Reliance: General Astrological Influences, May 2019

By Crystal Pomeroy

Do your work, and I shall know you.
Do your work, and you shall reinforce yourself.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Astrological Overview, Daykeeper Journal May 2019May, like its main sign Taurus, conjures images of bright green grass, mounds of flowers, and earth so abundant that all we need to do is stretch out our hands to receive her fruits. This year, the fairy tale is not so easy. Saturn in Capricorn rules himself, and now Pluto as well, as these two most demanding planets are both retrograde in Capricorn, sign of sustained effort. May’s lineup in Taurus will be triggering this pushy duo.

On the one hand, we will be pressed to work, both inside and out. On the other, the Taurean harmonies give us a great chance to see tangible results on our Saturnian path of long-term progress, mastery, and self-reliance.

The month begins with a certain restless seriousness, as on Wednesday, May 1, Mercury sextiles active Mars and squares builder-planet Saturn; and Mars quincunxes Saturn. Saturn also takes a trine from the Taurus New Moon of Saturday, May 4. This lunation enriches the planet of discipline with charm and magnetism, softening its rough edges and opening a great window for diligent effort backed by prosperous intent.

The following tips for your rising and Sun sign will help you get a more personal feeling for Saturn’s  retrograde transit.

Sun and Rising Sign Tips for Saturn Retrograde

Aries

For the last year and a half, opportunities have been flowing in support of your standing in the world, long-term goals and profession. How can you take the reins and build on them?

Taurus

Beliefs can be comforting, yet they sometimes need review. If you aren’t getting the results you want, try finding a way to open your mind. Just establishing the intention will help new perspectives flow. You might also seek out a teacher, group, or book that has called your attention in the past, maybe even in an irritating way. Find a way to make a space for new input in your daily life.

Gemini

Your eighth house relates to power. The change—and the money—you want don’t come from manipulating people, but from developing your mental talents and putting them to use. Study something new, relearn something old. Really get it down.

Cancer

Stop waiting for people and circumstances to define your key relationships. Describe in writing the relationships that relate to your highest goals, and find ways to work on yourself that will allow you to manifest them.

Leo

You have tools to manifest and maintain your wellness; see how you can commit more fully to using them. Release activities that drain you so you can focus on the work that will strengthen your self-sufficiency.

Virgo

It’s time to pay attention to your hidden talents and instincts, both of which are basic to your success. Dust off a hobby or creative project, which may turn out to be with your children. It can build towards a more joyous and prosperous future.

Libra

Reorganize your home so it supports your success, inspiring you with greater order and beauty and freeing up your time for work. Get back to journaling or therapy so you can sort through family stuff and build a new level of confidence.

Scorpio

Saturn in the Third House has been pushing you to a new level of mastery in your communications, promotional activities, writing and thought processes. Time to get real and take drastic measures to organize the time and efforts you devote to them. It may seem antisocial, but if you don’t focus, opportunities will end up morphing into pressures.

Sagittarius

Jupiter in your sign has brought a new wave of fortune, but Saturn is asking you to take a look at your true values and work for what will bring lasting satisfaction and abundance.

Capricorn

This is time to act on the changes you want in your image and the positive recognition you long for. Take the reins of your life and reiterate your right to receive all the support the Universe is sending your way.

Aquarius

You tend to be strong in the ideas department, but even you need to update now and then. Do dream work, explore the shadows of an old identity or worn-out beliefs that may be holding you back. Visit new mystical groups or teachers, go to therapy, try books with new perspectives, use affirmations, build a new level of inner life.

Pisces

Start heeding your inner call to a new life mission. Write down the change you long for. If it seems too big to commit to, try taking a small step each day in that direction.

To get further light on your birth chart processes, spot the connection between the areas you’re called to rebuild (retrograde Saturn) and heal (retrograde Pluto) and the seeds of intention you can plant at the Taurus New Moon. This is one of the year’s best portals for beginnings; it can lead to tangible results in general and prosperity in particular. With Mars opposing Jupiter in the lunation’s chart, and Uranus recently into Taurus, the energy is not only about beginnings, but closure or release in order to achieve them.

According to your Sun and rising signs, The Taurus New Moon of May 4 particularly favors starting something in the following areas…
