During the month of love, the forces of the goddess join with those of the god within.
In its retrograde and shadow period, Mercury turns our attention inward. We can better appreciate the progress we have made and how to direct our efforts as we prepare for the initiatory portal of March, when the messenger planet will go fully direct and Uranus and Pluto will square off for the last of seven encounters. Their chain of aspects began in 2012, shortly after Uranus the rebel had made its definitive entrance in Aries, sign of the warrior.
That same year Neptune, planet of the Great Goddess, entered Pisces, sign of its rule. As described in our article, 2014: Year of the Spiritual Warrior, this transpersonal combination has sounded a call for the hero. As we wrote then:
“From St. George saving the maiden to the celestial Toltec warrior who defends his mother from attack while still in the womb, warrior myths remind us that the hero’s ultimate goal is to defend the inner life. Whether you prefer mindfulness, meditation, prayer, forgiveness, journaling, or any discipline or combination, this is a [time] to keep the inward flame burning through daily practice and a commitment that goes beyond the surface.”
What does this have to with February? Besides the aforementioned opportunity for introspection afforded by Mercury retrograde and its shadow periods, there will be a wide stellium in Pisces, sign of the mystical goddess, with Mars, Venus and Sun connecting with Neptune, her ruler. Neptune’s transit in the sign of the fish marks our times with a return of the sacred feminine, torch-bearer of spiritual expansion.
Mars joined Neptune exactly in January, and remains in wide range as February begins. Venus, the little goddess, catches up to her big sister on February 2, followed by the Sun on February 27.
