(Except as otherwise noted, all interpretations in this astrological forecast are based on a natural chart, using the beginning of Aries as the ascendant, and except where noted otherwise, times listed are Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7).
A “Void Moon” or “Void of Course Moon” (or “VOC moon” for short) makes no significant aspects until it enters the next sign. Its void period is thought to be a poor time for starting new projects or making concerted effort toward existing plans.
According to William Lilly, the Moon in Cancer (Moon’s rulership), Taurus (Moon’s exaltation), Sagittarius and Pisces (signs ruled by Jupiter, the Great Benefic) “performeth somewhat.” Lee Lehmann reports that she has tested this, and “you can take it to the bank.” Another way of putting how this works in an astrological forecast is that, when an action is taken during the void period in one of these signs, you get “unanswered success.” That is, the lack of planetary action prevents your action from being denied.
It’s worth a special effort to remember last night’s dreams, as oneiric activity was higher than usual, and with it, offerings of creative guidance. The treasures we retrieve can stimulate the executive within, who’s up and running with this First Quarter Moon in Capricorn (12:32 pm PT/3:32 pm ET). This afternoon and evening, we may be tempted to waste time in routine tasks or superficial socializing that distracts us from the need to go deeper, whether with research, introspection or healing, all favored by Moon’s contacts with Pluto and Chiron.
Affirmation
I demonstrate my faith by acting on intuitive leads, and doors open in response to my clear signal now.
A contact between Moon and Jupiter in the wee hours increases our enthusiasm on waking. We can use a constructive harmony between Moon in Capricorn and Saturn in Scorpio to make headway in work and bureaucracy, solve a problem, do research, reorganize and find a lost item or document. Do one of these things early, as the Moon goes VOC at 8:08 am PT (11:18 ET). The rest of the day is good for reaching out to an elderly person, or reading history just for fun.
Affirmation
Angels of the Sunrise, imbue in me your will to rise so I may make of this morning an act of power.
Curious Aquarius Moon combines with mental Mercury in its retrograde shadow to make this a good day for exploring our options. Read the fine print on a contract or otherwise review situations, present and upcoming, with an eye to your best interests. A harmony with Venus in Libra favors presenting our ideas and needs. Make some time for loving interchanges with your significant other or spiritual family.
Affirmation
I am worthy of the time and attention to care for myself and my interests. The actions I take in this awareness attract the best and highest results to me now.
Excitement and mystery make this a day of fireworks in the basement. Mercury in secretive Scorpio draws our attention deeply inward as it makes its definitive retrograde, while Moon in vociferous Aquarius connects with Jupiter in passionate Leo, and Mars trines Uranus to unleash our courage. Take some time this morning to listen to your inmost voice, reconnect with the dream of freedom that has been with you this year, and find an action you’d considered but not moved forward on.
Affirmation
I stop waiting for a door to open. I find a way to generate a door and do what I can to open it here and now.
Moon in Pisces connects with its ruler, dreamy Neptune as well as Mercury in Scorpio, for a morning both subtle and deep that favors spiritual healing and romance. Enjoy some gospel or other inspiring music and have your love object over for breakfast (with tantra for dessert). After a mystical day, the evening becomes surprisingly productive. Use it to consolidate healing work and organize the week’s activities in sync with Mercury retrograde: review, revise, reassemble, reconnect and redo.
Affirmation: I give thanks for the positive spiritual forces that are here to guide, bless and heal me now.
Moon in moody Pisces contacts Jupiter, putting us on a rollercoaster of faith and doubt. If we hold to our enthusiasm and visualize the best, we will make the most of the constructive trine from Moon to Saturn at 12:38 pm PT (3:38 pm ET). After that, Moon goes VOC, but in Pisces and flavored by this trine, the afternoon is can be propitious for progress in endeavors that we started before September 13.
Affirmation
My results are under spiritual law, so they manifest in perfect order now.
Sun opposes Uranus in Aries, the rebel reloaded, opening the way for a new phase of good. The path may or may not look inviting, but the changes triggered today are apt move us to a better place. The process begins with our ability to remember what we wish to release as we prepare for tomorrow’s gift of a Total Lunar Eclipse in Aries.
Affirmation
I relax my tight hold on people and situations, and trust the new good that unfolds here and now.
Today’s Eclipse Full Moon is at 15°05′ Aries, at 3:51 am ET (6:51 am ET). It joins Uranus in Aries, the spiritual warrior who has been squaring Pluto for more than two years, and as it does, presses for liberation of one kind or another. This lunation also connects with fixed star Alpheratz, another signifier of freedom. Harmonies with torch-bearer Mars in Sagittarius and promoter Jupiter in Leo can give us that extra measure of oomph that we need to put our shoulders to the wheel of good intent and get it moving.
This a North Node eclipse, and as such considered fortunate and related to something new. It can open the way to the freedom we long for. However, this will by no means be easy and may take acts of courage on our part. Relationships will need to be reworked and that famous guy called Ego, yours and/or someone else’s, may put up walls of resistance. So invoke your preferred spiritual helpers, watch for the door of opportunity, gather your journal and pen, and have your bags packed, just in case.
On a collective scale, hidden struggles for power and justice are apt to come to the fore. Women’s rights, domestic violence, gay marriage and other relationship controversies will make headlines. We will be hearing more about the consequences of the Michael Brown case, the militarization of police and the Snowdens of the world. Despite the best laid plans to the contrary, the vibration of humanity’s inward reach for freedom will cause toxic secrets to emerge, nullifying collective denial trips. The eclipse opposes Vladimir Putin’s Sun, so the Ukraine is likely to be a window for these developments.
On the level of consciousness, we are all participating in world tendencies. In its truest expression, Uranus in Aries is not just boisterous but brightly aware, moving us to strive for congruence with our highest truth and to see pressures as opportunities for growth, not mere opposition to our personal whims or sought-for advantage. As we persist in identifying our own voice of truth, centering our actions in its flow and visualizing beneficent outcomes, we will be forces of evolution for ourselves and the collective.
Affirmation
I am a channel for divine action, which is clear, strong and brilliant now and always.
The star of our prosperity shines along with the opulent Moon in Taurus, with harmonies to Neptune and Pluto, the Lords of Shadow, who can help us visualize abundance and dissolve our subconscious blocks to success. Moon in Taurus opposes Mercury in Scorpio, which can be great for inner work and opening our minds to abundance, but not so hot for negotiating, since the fixed signs tend to dig in their heels and hang onto their teddy bears.
Today also marks the beginning of Sukkot, an ancient eight-day harvest celebration which evolved into the Hebrew Feast of the Tabernacles, celebrated in honor of the 40 days spent in the wilderness by the Jews who left Egypt. Traditionally it is a time to practice praise, which also happens to be a great way to direct the transmuting powers of retrograde Mercury in Scorpio.
Affirmation
I praise divine love for all the good I have received, and I trust this same power to multiply my good and cover all my situations now.
Venus, planet of love, creativity and finances, is in Libra and today is Queen for the Day, ruling Moon in Taurus, Sun in Libra, and now Mercury as the messenger planet retrogrades into Libra. Her influence helps us redecorate our space, reorganize our finances and find new clarity or confirmation about what we want in partnership. A love flame from the past may reignite, as may forgotten business opportunities. The evening invites us to share the good life with amenable others.
Affirmation
Divine love sweeps through my life, removing obsolete attachments and situations and bestowing new joy and prosperity now.
Moon in Taurus brings out the sensual side of a sweet line-up in Libra early this morning. You may not want to sleep in this morning, especially if you are sharing your bed. At 7:32 am PT (10:32 ET) Moon goes into Gemini, ruled by retrograde Mercury, and later makes an inspiring but potentially confusing trine with surrealistic Neptune. The afternoon favors independent creative work or contacting the angels. When you do communicate with others, focus on clarity, even if that requires revision, reiteration, and patience.
Affirmation
The angels of clarity touch my mind, and insure the best outcomes from my inner and outer connections now.
This morning, Gemini Moon contacts healer Chiron and transformative Pluto, influences that favor review of our current strategies for healing body, emotions and/or spirit. At midday, a chain of harmonies is unleashed—to liberator Uranus, luscious Venus, joyful Jupiter and vibrant Sun—opening the way for a fun afternoon and renewal in relationships and projects initiated before September 13. Before falling asleep tonight, program yourself to remember your dreams, using the intuitive Cancer Moon and its contacts to psychic Neptune and revealing Pluto. Remember to have a notebook and pen on hand to write them down on waking.
The following affirmation can be repeated 10 times before sleeping:
Positive spiritual forces send me clear messages in dreams that I remember on waking.
Expect good results if you use the early hours to press forward on personal projects begun before September 13. At 10:58 am PT (1:58 pm ET), Moon goes VOC until 4:30 pm PT (7:30 ET), when it enters Cancer. Enjoy dinner with your mother or other cuddly family member/s.
This evening’s Cancer Moon is also apt for blessing water, in connection with the Roman fest called Fontinalia, celebrated on October 13 to venerate holy wells and springs (since these were connected to the sacred feminine, the holiday was probably derived from an earlier goddess tradition).
To make your own holy water, take a full glass or non-plastic vessel in your hands and repeat words like these several times:
I behold the Omnipresent Good that fills this water and uses its liquid molecular structure to cleanse, bless and vivify whatever it touches.
Moon in sensitive yet savvy Cancer opposes secretive Pluto, making this morning apt for consulting the I Ching or another oracle, reviewing your inner dialogue and giving one last search for that piece of paper you lost. A harmony with Chiron facilitates emotional healing, as well as multiplying the benefits of positive affirmations and empathetic listening to others.
Affirmation
I am worthy of wellness, and this certainty attracts whatever I need to manifest wellness now.
As Last Quarter Cancer Moon (12:12 pm PT/3:12 pm ET) contacts moneybags Venus and taskmaster Saturn, today—and particularly this evening—is good for business. In ancient Europe, October 14 and 15 were honored in preparation for winter. This archetype plays well on today’s stars to favor cleaning out our closets and drawers to simplify our space and move into the generous spirit of the holiday season.
Empower your uncluttering by blessing each item as you remove it from your space with words like these:
I love you and give thanks for your service and stay in my life, and I bless you to the next phase of your existence. My good is not lost, it circulates through me and to me abundantly now.
Moon in creative Leo helps us use the morning to plan the words we can use later in the day. If the chance to express your ideas and proposals doesn’t appear spontaneously, make one happen so you can use the influence of the Sun—Leo Moon’s ruler—as it conjuncts messenger Mercury in charming Libra. This evening the messenger planet harmonizes with firebrand Mars in Sagittarius, sign of preachers and script writers, and your tongue gets even smoother.
Affirmation
Angels of Communication, please help me unleash my gift of words and use to share true and powerful messages now.
The work week closes with love and excitement, as heart-centered Moon in Leo connects with Uranus, specialist in surprises, and Jupiter, Lord of Expansion. Mid-morning, Mercury conjoins with Venus, Lady of Love, in the sign of her rule. This combination is particularly fortunate for those whose words are their work: writers, sales and PR reps, publishers, editors and those in the advertising industry. However, since words are part of life on Earth, anyone can use this shining afternoon to get their message across beautifully for romance, work, fun or lifting the spirits of others.
Affirmation
Omnipotent Good is not making me wait for people and events to favor my success and happiness. It works through infinite channels to make my success and happiness appear where I am and in what concerns me now.
If at all possible, rise before dawn this morning to direct the creative vitality of Leo Moon, whose talent is further blessed by harmonies with polished Venus in Libra and audacious Mars in Sagittarius. This is a great combination for progress on projects or dreams begun before September 13. At 6:10 am PT (9:10 ET), Moon goes VOC, and we can let loose and enjoy ourselves, particularly with children, games and taking in a play or museum exhibit. At 4:08 pm PT (7:08 ET), Moon goes into productive Virgo. Avoid getting picky with people and circumstances, or touchy if someone seems to criticize you.
Affirmation
Dear angels of the morning, with your power, please light my inner flame so I may heed cosmic opportunities and act on them now.
Moon in conscientious Virgo (ruled by retrograde Mercury) connects with the shamanic energies of Pluto and Chiron. Amidst all the processes of review we have done since Mercury went retrograde, the time has come to examine our deepest emotional, spiritual and physical needs. If possible, do this in a natural setting, like the woods, a beach, meadow or park. Spend some time with yourself or others who support inward reflection and empowerment. Write down your goals for inner and outer wellness, and do what you can to act on them this evening, when creative Venus makes a wonderful harmony to heroic Mars in Sagittarius, in a blend of feminine and masculine energies which, if we direct them actively, can open new paths.
Affirmation
I release my concern for opinions and circumstances, and direct my attention toward the inner voice that guides me to care for my deep needs now.
Moon in diligent Virgo harmonizes with powerhouse Saturn in Scorpio, and Mercury—Moon’s ruler—sextiles Jupiter, planet of opportunity. This fortunate combination favors facing challenges and solving problems, especially those we have been avoiding for some time. It also favors public relations, connections in love, friendship and alliances of any kind. If we polish and share the ideas we have been trying to express since before September 13, a good response is likely.
Affirmation
I stop waiting for people and circumstances to facilitate my good, I generate my good by radiating it and acting on it now.
Moon in refined Libra connects with creative Neptune: give somebody flowers, share a special lunch and take in an art movie. Today’s influences also favor designing an event for Thursday’s Eclipse New Moon.
Affirmation
The Master Creator of All that Is creates beauty for me, through me and as me now.
Moon in Libra connects with transformative heavies Pluto, Chiron and Uranus. Issues around relationship patterns continue to arise, and with them opportunities for healing. Master number 22 can assist our progress in consciousness and our success in manifestation, particularly in response to efforts to overcome the “disease to please.” Sun’s rendezvous with Venus guides us with the light of love, promising renewal in relationship, with ourselves and/or a significant other.
Affirmation
The Same Mind that knows how I can be free of unhealthy attachments also knows how to facilitate this and does so through Its infinite channels now.
The Eclipse New Moon in Scorpio (0°25′ Scorpio, 2:57 pm PT/5:57 pm ET) opens a powerful portal for change, which will be particularly significant for women—and for men interested in honoring their anima, or feminine aspect.
This lunation is a key link in the return of the Sacred Feminine, initiated in 2012, when the Solstice Sun was symbolically reborn in the birth channel of our galaxy, as predicted by the Maya peoples thousands of years ago.
Goddess Venus rides the Eclipse, while Neptune—in the sign of its rule and of the great mother, Pisces—is in trine. As a slow, outer planet, Neptune’s passage through the signs relates to collective movements and shifts of consciousness. In our predictions for 2014, we noted that the last time it transited Pisces was from 1847 to 1861, when the seeds of the western spirituality movement were sown and cultivated, mainly through audacious women. We foresaw that this year, “women will continue to emerge and surge as teachers, healers and facilitators.”
Well, this eclipse portal is a trigger in that process. Whereas Neptune and Pisces are subtle, Scorpio is a fierce, strong goddess, willing and able to release whatever obstructs her designs. About a month ago, Scorpio’s ruler, Pluto, went direct. If you recall the weekend of September 20–21, you may remember finding a new level of inner freedom, a disposition to let go of whatever keeps you from living your path of power. This eclipse can move us more definitely in that direction.
Under Scorpio, the powerful sign of darkness, we can expect women of African ascendance to particularly embody its spirit. Less than an hour after becoming aware of this perspective, I came across a headline in a Mexican newspaper: “Michelle Obama Empowerment, ‘Woman are smarter than men.’” The article goes on to say that she was addressing the wives of African leaders at a recent DC gathering, adding that they should, “speak up on… issues.”
We can expect to hear more of Thokozile Mazipa, the judge in the Pistorius case, Oprah, journalist Jacqueline Charles, and other prominent black women. They speak to the dark goddess in all of us, that courageous, potent force for change that as this eclipse boils forth, is no longer willing to wait to come into her own.
Another archetype to watch for now and throughout the next three months is that of the witch, in both maleficent and beneficent versions. The latter is apt to include Elizabeth Warren, as the eclipse trines her Sun, and she will somehow jump more firmly into the limelight.
A commercial side effect will be a tendency for Halloween events and fashion to be creepier than usual.
Some of us have been panting at the door for change, and will be ready to jump when today’s lunation triggers opportunities. For others, shifts may come as a surprise. Whatever our current direction may be, we can align with this gift of renewal that Mother Autumn gives us.
Suggestions to ground its energy include:
- Remember that change is necessary and when we collaborate with it, opens the way for new levels of freedom, joy and plenty.
- Think outside the box, detect how female stereotypes might currently be limiting you, and define the most desirable changes in your present and future phase of life. Put your observations and intentions in writing.
- Identify in writing some examples of the sacred feminine at its most positive, and commit to developing one or more.
- Use the intensity of this lunation’s stellium in Scorpio to explore your shadow, release the impulse to control or manipulate people and situations, transmute your emotions and/or reaffirm your intuition about the special gift this portal brings for you.
- Remember, the fierce goddess expresses not only for you but through you for the world. Celebrate Halloween by playing the good witch or warlock for a group or person in need. Make donations, pray for others, and diffuse your personal drama in selfless acts of kindness.
- Check out our ritual in Daykeeper’s Moon Meditation section.
Waxing Moon in Scorpio collaborates with retrograde Mercury in Libra to help us face and resolve misunderstandings and other challenging situations. Harmonies with Pluto and Chiron help us get to the bottom of the memories and emotional dynamics behind current issues, facilitating new levels of healing.
Affirmation
The Same Mind that knows the roots of my healing needs also knows how to reveal them and does this through infinite channels now.
Although Mercury goes direct today, it will be in its retrograde shadow for another three weeks, during which time favored activities include reflection, restructuring and reworking, rather than new beginnings or major purchases. But this is by no means a hint to park your bicycle. Right on its station, the messenger planet harmonizes with upstarts Jupiter and Uranus, both in go-getter fire signs, opening the way to redeem our pending aspirations and close the year brightly.
Affirmation
I stop waiting for people and circumstances to support me. The Angels of Independence are with me, guiding me to honor my deepest interests. I make a space to heed and act on my guidance now.
This isn’t just another sleepy Sunday morning. Moon is in enthusiastic Sagittarius, and Mars is moving into go-getter Capricorn, where it triggers the Aries point to fire our desire and power to build. It’s wise to rise early and take a step to ground the impulse for change set in motion by this month’s eclipses. By mid-morning contacts with Neptune and Chiron slow the pace as they open a space for mystical and healing activities. Night owls will enjoy a great window for progress that opens at 10:22 pm PT (1:22 am ET) and lasts through the night.
Affirmation
My inner and outer cycles respond to spiritual law, so they manifest in perfect order now and always.
A great day for presenting ideas, reaching out to others and advancing our creative and romantic intentions (particularly those begun before September 13). Sun in Scorpio perfects the trine to Neptune triggered at last week’s Eclipse New Moon, and we can expect and/or provoke opportunities related to moving ahead on our path of personal empowerment, taking our goddess persona out of the closet, and releasing inner and outer blocks to assertive action. It’s worthwhile to review the suggestions shared for October 23, and any personal notes we made at that portal.
Helpful influences abound. Our charm is ignited and our words persuade, as Moon in expansive Sag harmonizes with Mercury and Jupiter, the publicists of the solar system. Although Moon goes VOC by midday, she is still favorable in the sign of the archer. Venus in sexy Scorpio trines hypnotic Neptune in Pisces to add a dose of charisma, creativity and seduction that will make the effects of our contacts with others and creative work spill over beyond the present moment.
Affirmation
My connections and initiatives glow with Divine Love and Power and these energies produce perfect outcomes in them and through them now.
Take your most audacious actions early in the day, as Moon in productive Capricorn conjuncts courageous Mars to help solve a problem or break through a barrier. The fruits of this initiative will be multiplied by a chain of harmonies that unfolds throughout the day, from Moon to those artists of the solar system, Neptune, Sun and Venus. These influences inspire creative genius and can be applied in painting, writing, music or your preferred medium, to design a unique Halloween or Samhain event or simply to create more beauty in your home and world.
Affirmation
I call on the spiritual warrior forces to help me radiate and create the good I want now and always.
Moon in Capricorn stimulates our pragmatic genius as it connects with Uranus and Mercury, planets of higher and lower mind, and helps us discern which of our current plans or schemes are workable. At 10:30 am PT (1:30 pm ET), Moon moves on to connect with media magnate Jupiter, opening a window for successful expression and promotion.
Affirmation
No condition or situation can keep the Divine Mind from thinking, discerning and expressing Itself with brilliance through me now.
First Quarter Moon in Aquarius (7:48 pm PT/10:48 pm ET) puts a creative spin on Halloween plans and helps us come up with ways to share with friends, spiritual family and those in need. If you’re going to a party, you might call the host to share these thoughts. If you’ll stay at home, you could do them on your own, or make an online donation otherwise further collective and altruistic causes to elevate the frequency of tomorrow’s holiday.
Affirmation
I invite the angels, dakinis and other cosmic helpers to imbue me with impersonal good will. I radiate this good will to all, and the kindness I feel in my heart connects me with the kindness in the hearts of all others, and we surround the entire planet with victorious good will now.
The urge for independence rises with the Sun this morning, as Moon in Aquarius trines rebel planet Uranus in Aries, sign of direct action. Courageous initiatives on long-term plans can open doors. Connections with others flow easily for work, romance and afternoon festivities as Moon trines Mercury in Libra, sign of the socialite. The energies of altruism, friendship and social causes flavor tonight’s activities.
These influences can bring out the best of a modern holiday that has evolved from ancient traditions like Samhain and the Mesoamerican Day of the Dead. For pagan cultures that valued nature’s power of change, this was the most important feast day of the annual cycle. Those who had left the physical plane were honored, as were the cosmic forces of transmutation, and all people’s living connection with the invisible realm of Spirit.
Affirmation
Today, I celebrate my Divine Connection with the powers of life everlasting, with loved ones and other positive spiritual forces that inhabit the invisible realm of Spirit. This awareness blesses my world and the entire planet, which is freed from false ideas and energies around this portal now.

Thanks Jan! I guess by now you’ve seen the eclipse observations and read Nancy’s interesting post about her son, who is evidently a brave and clear channel for the spirit of Uranus in Aries. Hugs to you both, ladies.

Jenny, Pat, William, thank you for your encouragement and feedback. William, my mother was -and is- such an erudite and visionary spiritual warrior, no filling those shoes. However, she appreciated differences and encouraged us all to develop our own gifts; that I can work on. It’s funny, earlier this year I awoke and felt my mother showing me a section of daily influences and I heard her say, “Do this”, and then she showed me an affirmation, “with this.” We once were working on a yearly book like that together. When I got her message I thought it would be a lot of work, but if she said so, I knew I had to. I started posting it on my facebook page. The editor of a major newspaper in Mexico saw it and asked me to do it in her publication. Little did I know my sister Susan would want it for Daykeeper, too. I’m grateful and excited to be sharing with the Daykeeper family.
