The Time of the Wolf is ending. This is the Shadow Wolf of collective consciousness, but it is also the Wolf, or Beast, in each of us. It comes in many forms and guises, from the were-wolf to the kitten, and it is not just beastly in form. It is Jung’s anima/animus, our Animal Shadow. It responds to life on a simple level and hides in the shadows because it is uncivilized.
We see it in culture in stories like Beauty and the Beast or Red Riding Hood. Typically, these stories portray the Beast as male, but women carry their own feminine Beast as well. The process of taming the Beast is depicted in star lore, the Tarot and Western Alchemy, Eastern philosophy—in every system, because it is a universal of human consciousness.
This taming comes (as shown in the Tarot) by gentling the Beast, not by slaying it. Its fears of its own strength must be transformed into the radiance of Soul by recognition of its union with All That Is. What is no longer separated must be part of the light, Cosmic Union, and this is the nature of all consciousness—to recognize that it is united with all other consciousness and become part of the light.
