Note: A VOC Moon period is when the Moon is making no further major planetary aspects before it changes signs. Moon and its aspects are strongly associated with our everyday behavior, and without those aspects to direct our course, we are left much more free to pursue our own ends in our own way. It is like you’re driving down the freeway and find the road signs removed for awhile. On the one hand, plans may go awry, you may miss your exit; on the other hand, inner work is greatly favored as those external "instructions" are reduced.

Times used are EST, because the overall influences for the United States are centered in Washington DC.

MONDAY OCTOBER 1. Moon is VOC in Pisces until 3:08 p.m. Nevertheless it is an eventful day. Venus and Mars trine to help us know and get what we want. We can attend to things and people which are meaningful to us, and make creative changes in our relationships to them. Today we see Pluto and Vesta in joint action—transformation of investments—which can include anything in which our heart is invested or to which we are dedicated.

Moon enters Aries at 3:08 p.m. EDT, and the excitement of tomorrow’s Full Moon rises. Just after that, Mercury turns retrograde to begin backtracking for the next three weeks. Mercury turns in the very last minutes of Libra, the sign of balance. This point is a hotspot. It was sensitized by Mercury turning direct at that exact same place on election night. It looks like a major shift in balance is occurring now, a year later. We are also close to the autumnal equinox, fulcrum of the fading year, a natural time for a rebalancing. What in your life is asking for rebalancing now? Today we get the clues, and for the next three weeks, Mercury retrograding in Libra will help us work at it.

Today we also experience another of the month’s oppositions, again indicating the importance of relationships. Opposites, facing one another, must relate. Idealistic Neptune in Aquarius opposes the partner, Juno, in dramatic Leo. Romance draws us, but at the same time Neptune often leads to disillusionment and betrayal with its unreal expectations of perfection. With Neptune we often feel we’re in a dream world—and are. And Juno often invites abuse.

Mercury’s most dynamic aspect is its movement during the first half of the month towards a square with Mars, which occurs on October 13. Aggressive attitudes will be building up during that time. Mercury and Mars together indicate forceful or warlike thinking, and this is in the air now. Mercury and Mars conjoined to begin this cycle on August 10, 2000. At that time they were at 7 Leo, conjoined the U.S. North Node, indicating assertive promotion of U.S. power during this cycle. Their turning point came on May 26-27, when Congress passed the huge tax cut, which provided an excuse to cut social spending.

This will be an interesting and exciting day, illuminated by the bright Harvest Moon tonight.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 2.
Full Moon at 10 Aries occurs at 9:49 a.m. EDT. Libra is about partnership and cooperation. The Aries Full Moon comes along to remind us that everything starts with ourselves, and to have the courage to face the risks of growing.

We will have that courage. The keynote of this Moon is action. It is part of a grand cardinal cross, which means we are pulled in different directions at once, and must do something. Besides Sun in Libra opposed by Moon in Aries, we have Jupiter in Cancer opposed by Mars in Capricorn.

Jupiter-Mars together are the quintessential warrior. Jupiter is the general, and Mars is the soldier. With Jupiter in Cancer, the purpose of battle is to defend one’s homeland, one’s family. Mars in Capricorn respects the hierarchy, and can follow through on a logical plan of attack.

Libra is seeking justice, and Aries Moon enjoys facing challenges and is quick at jumping to the attack. Much as Libra wants harmony, this is not a peaceful Full Moon.

Another indicator of big action is the Moon’s Nodes at the degree of that historic Summer Solstice Total Solar Eclipse on June 21, 2001. That eclipse catalyzed many changes, in our lives and in the world, and those changes—and others—will be activated now. Many seminal events occurred then. One example of many was the beginning of right wing Israeli settler violence in the West Bank of Palestine.

Moon’s Nodes refer to the general thrust of activity, to the direction in which we’re moving. They have been in Cancer and Capricorn for the last 18 months, giving us all a concern with security and with business. This is their last hurrah in the Cancer-Capricorn polarity, and it will be a big one.

In the chart set for Washington, the major action occurs in the money sector of the chart. Further disruption in Washington is shown by rebellious Uranus unsettling home turf there.

The challenge for each of us is to stay balanced in the midst of the action. Venus in sensible Virgo can help. That means attending to our daily lives, to our health, and to our work.

The Sabian Symbol for 10 Aries is:

"A TEACHER GIVES NEW SYMBOLIC FORMS TO TRADITIONAL IMAGES. Revision of attitude at the beginning of a new cycle of experience. A new dimension of consciousness is discovered, revealing higher possibilities of experience and mental development. ABSTRACTION and emotional allegiance."

This Grand Cross warrior Moon travels throughout western U.S. and Canada, Russia, the Middle East, and the Far East, especially Japan and Australia. Afghanistan, whose chart also has a grand cardinal cross, is a particular center of action.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 3. The Full Moon action continues today. Moon’s role culminates tonight when Moon opposes our retrograde Mercury to add the need for self-assertion to Mercury’s review process. Arguments are likely. Use them to bring out issues, not to attack others. Save discussion for later, when we can listen better to each other.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 4. What a different day this is! No militant action now—instead mellow Taurus Moon squaring Neptune. This is a dreamy day, but super-creative. With Taurus’ earthiness, we can manifest that creative impulse during these next four days. Let it flow.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 5.
The next three days are loaded with creative aspects. Plan something large-scale, fun, interesting, and challenging. Moon continues in low key Taurus, and goes VOC at 6:33 p.m. as it brings us a surprise.

Today Pallas Athena and Pluto have their conjunction in Sagittarius. This is an enormously mentally creative-transformative combination, and in Sag it is concerned with the big picture and carrying a cause and a vision. Vesta is here, too, and she brings dedication and focus to the project, along with a concern for protecting those things in which she is invested. Saturn adds structure, seriousness, and endurance.

Sun moving into these degrees during the next couple of days adds vitality, harmonious ideals, and another jolt of creativity. Today Sun squares Ceres, to vitalize her nurturing role in the current action.

We might sum up this action by saying that we are creatively transforming how we care for something dear to us, and doing it in a big and focused way. Three of the asteroids are intimately involved now, and asteroids all have to do with quality of life issues.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 6. Moon enters lively Gemini at 11:12 a.m. I’ve noticed, though, that now with Saturn in Gemini, the mood is a little less lively and a little more serious. Friday’s super creative aspects continue throughout the weekend, and now we talk with others about what’s going on. Intuition is very strong today, and can be a help in quick and deep communication.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 7. Moon continues in vivacious Gemini, and we wind up this week’s special activities on a healing note. We make important connections today, with effects which will endure. For instance, if we did a weekend seminar or retreat at this time, we would meet people who had a lasting influence on us, and the experience would change our lives. Moon occults, or eclipses, Saturn today to put its monthly push into our current structure-changing process. Today it will have an extra kick, bringing Saturnian reality to the fore. Tonight there is an opportunity for brilliant flashes of intuition. Pay attention to your dreams.

MONDAY OCTOBER 8. Lively connections continue throughout the morning. This is Columbus Day, and one manifestation of the creative, transformative weekend could be groups designing a whole new look at the meaning of Columbus Day. Moon is VOC all afternoon, and unexpected things happen then. At 6:19 p.m. EDT Moon enters Cancer, and we are ready for a quiet evening at home.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 9. This is a reclusive, sensitive day. Moon is in Cancer with no aspects to stir us up—until tonight, that is. As the hour grows later, we may find ourselves feeling restless instead of sleepy. With Jupiter, Sun and Mars ganging up on emotional Moon, we may feel a need to defend ourselves or to attack someone. Responsive Cancer Moon can take everything very personally. Hold off on arguments.

Vesta turns retrograde today, and her security issues will be emphasized. She is captivated by magnetic Pluto these days, and will face him directly again on OCTOBER 16. During this next week she prepares for that meeting by deepening her personal power of commitment, and her focus on transformation.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 10. Last Quarter Moon at 17 Cancer occurs just after midnight. This is another active, releasing Moon. And it operates with gusto, for it conjoins exuberant Jupiter. Cancer Moon is sensitive and emotional, and Jupiter expands all it touches. Thus we are super-sensitive.

We are planting the new seeds now, for the soil of Cancer is fertile. This moon not only conjoins Jupiter in the sky, but it is conjunct the U.S. Jupiter. Jupiter is an expansion principle. Think balloon. The U.S. is a Cancer Sun nation, with Sun aligned with that of George Bush. Jupiter now on both their Suns gives self-confidence and the desire to rule. After all, Jupiter was King of the Gods.

Jupiter is also the ruler of the U.S. Sagittarius-rising chart. Jupiter is full of confidence, and sometimes foolish bravado—but he tends to be lucky. He is very much in charge now, and full of self-assurance. However, his gambling—and he is a gambler—may be held in abeyance until after the coming New Moon. In their natal charts, Jupiter conjoins the U.S. sun and George Bush’s moon. Jupiter confers an aura of royalty on whatever it touches.

Jupiter is also visionary, and Last Quarter Moon is prime time for visioning the future.

Warrior Mars now stars with Sun, Moon, and Jupiter. He is backed with a lot of power, and ready to fight.

The intense Saturn-Pluto opposition of this season is backed by focused Vesta and strategist Pallas-Athena, giving it a laser-like focus. This powerful opposition sits right across the U.S. chart, and is an axis for great change of U.S. identity as a nation, as well as transformation of relations with other nations.

Everything in this Last Quarter Moon chart is aspected, and this indicates a big change of consciousness at this time, as well as concerted preparation for the future. Massive shifts occur now, as old paradigms change.

The Moon’s Nodes stay in one sign polarity for about 18 months. They are destiny points, showing where we have come from and where we are going. The nodes have been in the business (and U.S.) polarity of Cancer-Capricorn for the last 18 months, but after this Last Quarter they enter a new polarity. This last quarter Moon is the last gasp of working with the conservative mommy-daddy, home-business polarity of Cancer and Capricorn. By New Moon we will be in the adventurous Gemini-Sagittarius polarity.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 11. Moon is in royal Leo with exciting aspects, and we feel the energy to express and create. Leo feels independent and in charge of the show, but he does like his applauding audience. Power shifts continue .

FRIDAY OCTOBER 12. The Leo excitement continues this morning, with the possibility of brilliant ideas and new solutions to old problems. At 12:34 p.m. EDT Moon goes VOC. Relax during the afternoon and evening, before the heavy hitters resume action tomorrow. Unexpected events often occur during VOC Moon times. Just be open to the flow.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 13 and SUNDAY OCTOBER 14. Moon is in Virgo and we are analytical and practical. Virgo is a good work sign, and the weekend is full of problem-solving aspects. Virgo also refers to the military "services," and the focus on the military steps up now in preparation for the coming New Moon in Libra. Power confrontations and impulsive action are also part of the weekend’s action, despite sensible Virgo trying to keep our feet on the ground.

On Saturday Mercury and Sun have their retrograde conjunction. This occurs every three months, and has the seed-planting character of the new moon, except that we are working with our perceptual processes with Mercury, and our cycle is one of about 90 days instead of about 29 days. The ideas planted now will culminate in about 45 days. In this case, we have the "Full Mercury" in early December, which will be a time of clarity and illumination concerning the issues which are coming up this weekend.

Mars exactly squares this Sun-Mercury conjunction to give it an enormous impulse to action. Mars is the fighter, ready to meet all challenges. Sun and Mercury are in Libra, asking for balance, but balance is very difficult now. There is a push to right injustice, but everyone is apt to feel that justice lies with their cause. Arguments and fights are likely.

In addition, North Node of the Moon is now in Gemini, and South Node is in Sagittarius. This nodal change is a shift in world attitudes from caution to adventurism. Sagittarius is the gambler par excellence.

The challenge now is to stay grounded and objective. This is quite possible with Virgo Moon, who can help us develop the skills and focus necessary to center ourselves. Virgo can also help us channel our impulsiveness into productive and helpful action.

This is a great weekend for a seminar which trains in healing techniques.

MONDAY OCTOBER 15. Moon and Venus both enter Libra today to make for a "sweetheart deal." We are very attracted to others, and this is a great time for teamwork, and for creating teams for the future. Balance, beauty, and artistry are important. We can now negotiate differences, and create workable compromises. This is a prime day for envisioning the possibilities of future harmony.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 16. New Moon at 24 Libra occurs at 3:23 p.m. EDT. The Libra season is about balance, fairness, and humanity. But getting there is often a rocky road. People are ready to fight to achieve peace and justice, and it can be a long time coming. This New Moon is on George Bush’s nadir, showing a rebirth for him.

This Moon conjoins Arcturus, one of the great fixed stars. So then does Mr. Bush’s nadir—his foundations, his security, where he’s coming from. Arcturus has a Jupiter-Mars nature, with a reputation, says Ebertin, for achieving "justice through power." It gives the native a very enterprising spirit, and can make him belligerent and quarrelsome.

Mr. Bush’s progressed Jupiter is also at this place, enhancing the expansionist nature of Jupiter. And Jupiter and Mars are major actors at this New Moon. The Warrior is on the loose.

Balance is very much needed now, with many bodies in opposition in the heavens. The four planets in Libra can act as mediators between conflicting views if we so choose. However, right now Libra too might be primed for a fight, for Sun and Moon were just challenged by Mars. That same Mars, however, can be used to push for negotiation and compromise between conflicting sides.

Mars in Capricorn makes me think of a soldier of the Roman Empire, ready to carry out the orders of the hierarchy. Within the next week, Mars will energize a major aspect of the U.S. chart, Mercury in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn. U.S. power is stirred to action.

Oppositions dominate this chart. Oppositions often manifest as opposing points of view—although they have every opportunity to cooperate, more than with any other aspect.

A major opposition is Pluto opposing Vesta. Vesta, goddess of the hearth, focuses on safety and protection, taking care of one’s turf, and Pluto is now empowering and transforming that process.

Ceres opposing Jupiter is the Earth mother opposing the King. She is apt to deny him some of her bounty if he betrays his people. With Jupiter in Cancer, the King now is represented by GW and by the U.S., both with Sun in Cancer.

Juno in Leo is opposing the midpoint of our far-out Aquarian planets—Uranus and Neptune. Juno is the faithful, often abused, partner. With this aspect she has a yearning for a perfect relationship, but could well be thrown into a tizzy by the weird and unexpected behavior of Neptune and Uranus, neither of whom will be faithful to anyone—only to the cause of raising consciousness in the service of spiritual growth. People are often hurt in this process. In terrorist situations, where there are innocent victims, we find Juno.

Pallas Athena is still close to Pluto, and Saturn opposes them both. This is the core of the historical structural transformation now occurring in the world, and represented particularly by the United States. Pallas has a lot of savvy and courage, and one of her concerns is defense of her people.

In sum, the four major asteroids oppose the five outermost, impersonal planets. The asteroids relate to quality of life issues, how we in fact live on an intimate daily level. The outer planets correspond to major planetary evolution rather than to individual lives.

There is a huge struggle here—between the comfortable, safe, productive, civilized, communal life promoted by the asteroid goddesses, and the vast impersonal forces of history.

Now, with this New Moon, the sides are becoming clear. The big question is, "Can Libra apply her vaunted negotiating skills to bring about a satisfactory compromise between living a decent life and feeling we are ruled by powerful outside forces?"

The answer lies within each of us, to the degree that we can recognize and accept that all of the factors involved exist within each of us. Our destiny is in our hands. This is the month, Libra of the Scales, when we can learn to integrate and balance it. As above, so below. As without, so within.

We may now be willing to take the risks necessary to move into the new level of consciousness required of us. (See Sabian Symbol for preceding Full Moon of OCTOBER 2.) For the Moon’s Nodes have finally left the conservative Cancer-Capricorn polarity and have moved into Gemini-Sagittarius, signs of the adventurer.

Pluto is about transformation, the law of life, and always requires that we give up something dearly held which no longer serves.

The Sabian Symbol for 24 Libra is perfect,

"A BUTTERFLY WITH A THIRD WING ON ITS LEFT SIDE. The ability to develop, for inner strengthening, new modes of response to basic life situations. The butterfly is the ancient and traditional symbol of the results of the process of spiritual rebirth. If the butterfly has three wings instead of two, a special development of an aspect of the spiritual life is shown. Three is a symbol of fulfillment. Some power has been added to the normal spiritual life of the individual person. The left side usually refers to the instinctual field of the consciousness, but it is also the heart’s side. A new strength is shown, perhaps as yet unrealized. ORIGINAL MUTATION."

The location of this New Moon in Libra is very similar to the Full Moon in Aries. This shows a super emphasis on those areas—western U.S. and Canada, Russia, the Middle East, and the Far East with Australia.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 17. Moon has moved into intense, penetrating Scorpio, and our month of balancing begins with great imbalance. Scorpio is very emotional and partial, and we will certainly have strong views on everything. This can show us not only where we stand, but where others stand as well. Go ahead, get into your biases. These are the tools which we have to work with to reach integration and healing. And it will be work. However, for the next month the forces of Libra can help us develop our sense of dispassionate justice.

This morning Moon and Neptune join forces to carry us into transcendent realms and mysterious dimensions. Take advantage of this opening to the other side to spend time alone. Meditate and contemplate. It will be inspiration for personal unity and healing. The angelic forces and our guides are close now.

Neptune has a very strong influence today because it is stationary in the heavens (from earth perspective) and in the process of turning direct. Neptune opens us to other realms, to dreams and visions, to divinity, to feelings of unity with all of creation. It opens us to heavenly vistas—and to hell as well, when we are caught at the personal desire level. All kinds of fantasy and illusion can appear to us through the veils of Neptune, and discerning "reality" can be a challenge. Neptune heightens the psychic and intuitive faculties. Neptune ultimately is an energy of unification. Mundanely, in the world, Neptune refers to oil, chemicals, drugs, photography, water in all its forms, and in fact the all of the cycles of nature, whether through the transformations of water or of organic life.

Neptune is also associated with addiction and denial, two major qualities of the U.S. And we do have Neptune elevated in the U.S. chart, placing a special importance on its energy.

We are apt to feel dreamy today, and it may be difficult to focus on concrete objectives. Instead, feed your imagination and your soul with nourishing food, which will serve you in the days to come.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 18. Moon continues in intense Scorpio with productive aspects. We can begin to manifest some of yesterday’s visions. Around noon there may be a surprise or upset, but it will smooth out by late afternoon. Moon goes VOC at 6:30 p.m. Scorpio Moon is especially good for deep merging, and we may want to share our deepest feelings with others. Or we may want to relax with a good video or music tonight.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 19 and SATURDAY OCTOBER 20. Moon is in fast-moving Sagittarius for these two days, and we are on our way into the adventure of a new cycle. Neptune, the cosmic channel, is our fuel now. Along with our prominent Venus, it can help us connect with others on the higher planes of compassion, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Working with Neptune is never easy, for at the same time that it glamorizes us, and opens us to heavenly vistas, it obscures earth reality. And earth is where we live. Our challenge is to learn to manifest those divine impulses on this earth plane. This requires clear vision, objectivity, high intentions, and the willingness to learn and change. These days we are open to inspiring others and being inspired by them. They are great days for fostering group cohesion, and working towards high ideals. Energy flows well.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 21.
Rise and shine today. Early morning is excellent for productive thinking and communication. At 7:42 a.m. Moon goes VOC, still in Sag, and we feel like venturing out. At 11:11 a.m. Moon enters Capricorn, and the mood becomes more serious. We continue our focus on social transformation, and are ambitious to accomplish specific objectives. Today and tomorrow are both excellent for research and for deepening our understanding of the hidden realms of power.

MONDAY OCTOBER 22. Moon continues in Capricorn, and we are ambitious and willing to work hard. Most of this month’s oppositions are stimulated today, giving us an excellent opportunity to evaluate and integrate conflicting points of view.

Mercury turns direct tonight, in mid-Libra, the zodiac point of maximum balance. It conjoins the U.S. Saturn, which tells us that the Administration is making a decision now in regard to how it applies its authority. At this moment the die is cast as to the basic meaning of the historic Saturn-Pluto opposition to the U.S. government. Actions arising out of these decisions will have enduring impact. This is also true for each of us. We can now make informed decisions about major rebalancings in our own lives.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 23. This is a long day of many changes, all of which lead up to a dynamic First Quarter Moon tonight. Early this morning Sun enters powerful, mysterious Scorpio, and we plunge into the season of the thinning of the veil, when passage between dimensions is easy. In Scorpio we penetrate the hidden side of life, and if we can go all the way to its depths, we emerge renewed. Scorpio is always extreme. This is necessary for the catharsis it promotes. Negatively, it can be power-hungry, obsessive, and vengeful.

With Moon traveling through Capricorn, we are industrious, organized, and practical. At 4:12 p.m. Moon goes VOC with a zinger. It eclipses energetic Mars, an eclipse visible in central Africa and in central South America, both areas of turmoil. Mars is one of Scorpio’s rulers, and thus its action now is intensified.

The Scorpio-Capricorn combination, together with an energized Mars, push the change buttons hard and effectively.

Moon enters Aquarius at 9:26 p.m., and catalytic Aquarius provides the spark for action. At 10:58 p.m. EDT First Quarter Moon occurs as Moon in the first degree of Aquarius squares Sun in the first degree of Scorpio. Expressions of power, some of them conflicting, are loud and clear now..

It is fighting power, and the source is the United States, for the freshly energized Mars now conjoins the U.S. Pluto in Capricorn, the signature of the plutocrat. Plutocracy receives a huge boost. Furthermore, the sign of Aries has just moved into the zenith above Washington DC. Purpose in the Capitol is directed by warrior energy. However, Moon sits between Mars and Neptune, and the energy may be confusing and chaotic. Mars itself is about to set in the West, which means the arrows sent from Washington are directly aimed at others.

Jupiter has just risen in the East. It conjoins the degree of the U.S. Sun and promises luck and good fortune in that position.

The anomaly is Venus in Libra, who has a key position in many ways in this very aggressive chart. How does this idealistic Venus work to balance, smooth, and harmonize this energy? Around midnight Venus and Mars will run straight into one another, and we shall see. Certainly a desire to join with others is basic with Venus.

Perhaps Venus represents the consciences and efforts of the peace-makers, and the peace-maker within each of us. Her position now is very influential. Venus and Mars can work together powerfully now to produce a true work of art, or encourage a true love, or catalyze an effective peace movement.

With Neptune prominent, access to angels, guides, and help from the other side is only a word away. Prayer and meditation can be very effective now.

The Sabian Symbol for 1 Aquarius is:

"AN OLD ADOBE MISSION IN CALIFORNIA. The power inherent in all great human works to endure far beyond the workers’ life spans. The works and spirit of the Spanish priests who directed the building of the California missions have had a lasting influence on the development of this land. While Capricorn begins with a symbol of socio-political power, Aquarius at its start represents a more spiritualized and idealistic or creative picture of the social forces at work. Moreover, it stresses the enduring character of human achievements ensouled by a great vision. THE CONCRETIZATION OF AN IDEAL."

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 24. Open to the love vibes today, like a morning glory to the morning sun. Inspiration and creativity flow. Tonight we can carry the energies of this Libra Moon Cycle into new dimensions.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 25. The airy, sociable, free-flowing energies of Moon in Aquarius finish with a burst of intuition at 3:32 p.m. After that Moon is VOC until 9:56 a.m. tomorrow. Try a science fiction video tonight, one about "Star Peace." Or call a friend and have a stimulating discussion.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 26. Moon enters Pisces at 9:56 a.m. This day is idealistic and intuitive. We are tuned into psychic vibrations, and at the same time Venus in Libra grounds a phase of our current big transformation, perhaps a special relationship. Tonight we can think big about the future, and perhaps make big plans. Moon in Pisces encourages us to connect with images. Sources can be through reading or watching TV or movies.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 27. Moon continues in dreamy Pisces, but with harsher aspects during the day, which can coincide with glitches in activities. Mars enters the future-oriented, technological sign of Aquarius today. This is the degree of the Quarter Moon earlier this week, and opens opportunities to follow through on those issues. By 5:31 p.m. energy smoothes out, and Moon goes VOC for the next 28 hours. Mars may hand us a surprise this evening, and Venus will provide an opportunity to make harmony. The evening can be exciting.

Daylight Saving Time ends early tomorrow morning. Set your clocks back one hour tonight.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 28. Go with the flow. Moon is VOC in Pisces for the entire day. Take a nap if you can, for tonight we may be late getting to bed. Moon enters martial Aries at 9:15 p.m. and within two hours makes an aspect with Mars to stir things up. Following this late wake-up call, Sun squares Neptune to give us a jolt of consciousness. This jolt will be with us Sunday, Monday, and in the days following. It is the last turn of the visionary cycle which began last Jan.25. Dreams can be vivid tonight.

MONDAY OCTOBER 29. Moon is in assertive, competitive Aries, and we feel like pushing ahead. We’re working with the Sun in Scorpio squaring Neptune in Aquarius, and this indicates a major power struggle and clash of modus operandi’s. Sun in Scorpio will go to great lengths to achieve social control. Neptune in Aquarius will undermine that control through its adherence to ideals of respect for the community of life. Scorpio’s bottom line is simply not part of the world view of Neptune in Aquarius. This is another phase of the battle we have seen waged in world streets since Seattle.

For six weeks we had Mars in Capricorn promoting the hierarchy. Now we have Mars in Aquarius promoting independence, technology, and a reform of the hierarchy.

This Sun-Neptune cycle began last Jan. 25, just as the Bush Administration was blasting off. On that day the World Economic Forum opened in Davos, Switzerland to "plan the future." The protestors were there, but more importantly, a parallel group, the Brazil Social Forum, met in Porto Allegre, Brazil, to talk about a social future which features a decent life for everybody. There was also a huge sit-in at a Monsanto plant in Brazil.

Neptune is visionary, and two contrasting visions for society were very clear at that time.

Many other significant events occurred on Jan. 25, but the one that struck me as most prescient was the brutal killing of a San Francisco woman by a Presa Canario dog, bred to kill. At the time I saw it as an omen of the new Administration. The case against the dog’s owners for murder has been complex, and as I write is not yet decided.

Energy moves easily and quickly today. We can accomplish what we set out to do, and it will be related to our visions.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 30. Moon continues in fast-paced Aries. In fact, it continues making aspects in the early morning, and we may be wakeful. At 2:17 p.m. it goes VOC for the remainder of the day. But that doesn’t mean we can relax, for in late afternoon Uranus, who shocks us into new awarenesses, turns direct. Uranus is the rebel and radical who shatters old forms, often suddenly. His reforming energy is especially prominent today and tomorrow.

We also begin a new cycle today, at this dynamic time when we are in the company of independent Uranus getting a green light, along with entering the powerful period of the Full Moon in Taurus influence.

The new cycle is Mercury conjoining Venus, which lasts about a year. This is a new awareness of our values and priorities, and of how we communicate them. Mercury and Venus join now in Libra, where the desire is to create harmony through cooperation. This is a civilizing influence.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 31. Moon enters Taurus at 7:48 a.m. EST. The Taurus Full Moon is one of the most powerful of the year, always occurring around the time of Samhain, when the veils between dimensions are thinnest. Tonight, at 9:41 p.m. PST and just after midnight, at 12:41 a.m. tomorrow, Full Moon at 8 Taurus shines its bright light down on us. There is illumination now of how we transform earth’s resources in the service of power. Geo-politics has prime time now.

It’s Halloween, and indeed the ghosts and witches are roaming about. The reality which we see right now is not the standard reality, because Neptune, Dancer of the Veils, obscures the character of both Sun and Moon. Both Scorpio and Taurus are into the practical bottom line, and with Neptune we may have a weird idea of what that is. With Mars moving up on Neptune, aggressive energy will be released in the service of those visions, however peculiar. That assertive energy could be misused, misdirected, and sabotaged unless we stay with the high possibilities of Neptune in Aquarius, and direct our energies in the service of humankind. Steering your children towards costumes as helper or heavenly figures would be much more beneficial than them pretending they are fighters, such as in the military or a star wars scenario.

This Full Moon brings together all of the important aspects of October, and is very potent. All of the oppositions are still in force, including the Nodal opposition, destiny points, freshly into the adventurous signs of Gemini and Sagittarius.

Conjunctions, which seed new cycles, include the focused, traditional, and protective Vesta with Saturn. Then we have Pallas Athena with Chiron showing strategy with technology. They both conjoin the Moon’s South Node, indicating old conditions, and perhaps the end of a technological cycle. Mars is about to conjoin Neptune, showing visionary but possibly misguided aggression. Juno conjoins Transpluto, showing the likelihood of victims in an intense resurrection-rebirth process. Juno now also opposes freshly-direct (thus potent) Uranus, showing that her process will be sudden and disruptive.

The Mercury-Venus conjunction is still exact and is, in fact, the fulcrum of this chart. It conjoins the U.S. Juno-Chiron opposition, which shows technological development, even at the cost of civilized living.

Most startling in this Full Moon chart is Transpluto at 27 Leo exactly rising in Washington DC. This symbolizes drastic resurrection for Washington. This is the degree of the Leo New Moon of August 18 (see August Calendar), which started the Moon cycle still in force on September 11. That New Moon was exactly conjunct Transpluto, in the degree of the Ascendant of this Full Moon chart, showing their intimate relation. The New Moon starts things. The Ascendant acts them out.

This degree, 27 Leo, conjoins the fixed star Alphard. In the spiritual sphere, according to Ebertin, it can give enlightenment. On the material plane it is generally associated with matters connected with poison. This is also one of Neptune’s realms, and as we saw, Neptune now challenges Sun and Moon.

There is more. Transpluto now exactly opposes the U.S. progressed Sun in Aquarius, transforming the identity of the U.S. through conflict.

The midheaven of a chart shows goals in the world, purpose. In this chart set for Washington the midheaven is at 22 Taurus, very close the U.S. Vesta, showing that protection of territory and investments is the primary purpose of the U.S. now.

With Leo rising, Sun in Scorpio rules this chart.

This is a super-transformative time. Talk about moving between worlds. We’re doing it. Events now will open the door for a new world.

On November 1-2 we have the second exact hit of the historic Saturn-Pluto opposition, an energy of structural transformation. (See August and September Daykeepers.)

The Sabian Symbol for 9 Taurus is most apt:

"A FULLY DECORATED CHRISTMAS TREE. In Northern countries we find a contrast between the tree outside—bare and normally covered with snow—and the tree inside the home—covered with decorations and loaded with gifts for the family. Snow has come outside, but the prepared and closely united group has created abundance, beauty, and happiness within, overcoming the cold barrenness of the outside world. The Christ figure is also included in the background—that is, the vivid faith in a transformed future….This suggests the ever-present possibility to transfigure the darkness and deprivation of the low point of a life cycle by incarnating within it an antiphonic response celebrating the ever remembered and always expected high moments of life. It evokes our undying FAITH IN CYCLIC RENEWAL."

The entire world participates in this energy. Special hot spots are all of North America, especially the Great Lakes area, Mexico, and Central America, all of Europe, South Africa, and China.
