Pluto, the planet of involuntary alchemy, takes his time when he comes calling. He walks around, sniffing in all the corners and checking under the rugs: nothing can escape his inspection, or his pressure to clean out the shadows and get in congruence with our deepest needs and greatest capacities. If we end up cooperating, his visit not only brings change, but empowerment.
In Aquarius, Pluto has a double mission. This sign of freedom likes to breathe easy. Where the Water Bearer pours its light into our charts is an area where we like mental stimulation, elbow room, and space to be ourselves. Of course we like freedom anywhere, but where we have Aquarius, it’s a requisite.
With Pluto transiting, freedom becomes more than a passive preference, it becomes a non-negotiable. We become mobilized from within to shake off any subtle shackles in our Aquarius houses, whether codependence, comfort zone, concern for the opinion of others, passivity, or fear about the consequences of taking the leap that Pluto demands.
Ever wondered what particular, strange force moved the populace in the American, French and Haitian revolutions? That was the last time the dark dwarf visited the sign of rebellion. So if a voice inside has been ringing the bell, telling you that it’s time to wake up and take to the arms of your personal resources and talents and ride for change, this time it’s for real. No more passive words, empty wishes, or I-hope-somebody-else-gets-the-message-and-takes-care-of-this.
Pluto has an elliptic orbit, and will be spending an exceptionally long 20 years in this transit through the sign of liberation. To see where you’ll be putting power into your own freedom, check your Sun and Rising signs, as well as where you have Uranus and Pluto in your natal chart, and where Uranus happens to be transiting. And go shake ‘em up.
Aries
After some years of professional transformation, you’re attracted to a more universal calling. You tend to enjoy people and causes on the edge, but now you’re feeling downright confined by familiar scenery and people, like you need to explore options that give your life more meaning and space for authenticity. You can become a powerful agent for change.
Taurus
Since 2019, your natural tendency to meet unusual people in positions of authority or power has been morphing into a unique profile of your own. Hidden information has surfaced in surprising ways, shaking up your plans for the future, resulting in either a change of profession or an entirely new direction. One way or another, you’ll no longer be a follower. Even so, avoid being overbearing and focus on cooperation, because wisdom and support can come from unexpected places and unusual people.
Gemini
Philosophy, beliefs, and all thing foreign are food for your curious spirit. A challenging loss or a deep emotional experience has ended up strengthened you, and your wings of power are opening. New horizons will now open and lead to a rebirth that you can experience through: higher education, a more universal perspective, and total renewal of your beliefs. Sometimes you may wish you could tap your ruby slippers and fly back to Kansas. But the slippers don’t take you home. Instead, you face the shadows and end up with a rebirth in self-direction and leadership.
Cancer
Uranus in your Eleventh House has been awakening you to your higher calling and how to follow it, but you sometimes doubt the messenger. Pluto, ruled by Uranus and activating your Eighth House, presses the issue. You’re shedding labels others have put on you -or that you imagined they did; and in your secret inner chamber, you redefine yourself, your intimate life, and your relationship to wealth, a relationship you can now discover in a major way.
Leo
Your close ties—with a partner, clients, patients, consultants, the public, or in another key relationship—are a point of mental expansion. They take you to heights of intellectual freedom and cosmic wisdom. Such connections tend to gravitate toward you. With Pluto traversing your Seventh House, close relationships are a focus of deep transformation. We can lose a partner, get married, and in one way or another find our power to forge a new way of relating that includes our own brand of freedom.
Virgo
Pluto enters in your Sixth House, moving you to redo the whole Virgo thing. You’ll be moving out of the drudge mode, having adventures, and connecting with service and healing as passions rather than as a form of sacrifice. You can get a lot done, but within your heroic efforts, make sure you find balance and take care of yourself. If a challenge in health or at the work place comes up, it is to get you out of your comfort zone and spark this path of change.
Libra
By exploring shadow perspectives, your talents become enriched, so that whatever you make, create, or produce is more than just pretty. For instance, issues from childhood can boil to the surface to be healed, and you air them out more freely. The process may defy convention and irritate some, but it also frees up your creative energy and leads to a powerful form of self-expression. Also, your children may go through a learning experience and as you devote large amounts of energy to them, you learn too. Get out of a toxic romance, or if you’re in a potentially good relationship, work on yourself and your limits to fuel its potential and make it last.
Scorpio
Ideally, your home is a respite of freedom. With Pluto activating this sign, the bets get higher. Not only do you want freedom, you will fight for it, breaking through the strictures of your current situation or the resistance of whoever wants to chain you to limiting or obsolete roles, so that your freedom becomes a point of departure. You can shake off restricting family roles and discover easier ways of applying the powers of words and communications that you have developed over the last 12 years.
Sagittarius
You are led to work with words. Sometimes, you do it under pressure, learning to speak a language, edit extensively, work against a deadline, or squeeze the power out of 10,000 prayers as you press for a miracle. Ultimately, you retrieve your own word of power, a gift you already have, but now time you will learn how to direct it, market it, or somehow make it prevail. If you’re an author, writer, or public figure, this is a great time to get an agent or someone to support your communications.
Capricorn
Pluto in Aquarius activates your Second House, which for you means that status and security equal freedom. For the next 20 years, you will be taking the reins of your finances more firmly, whether or not those around you agree with your priorities. Besides the material element, this is an invaluable opportunity to develop your self-esteem and heal wounds from the past. You can do big things in finance, discover the value of your identity, and perhaps even end up marketing it (as in a brand name).
Aquarius
Water-bearers, take note, you’re beginning a hero’s journey. The time has come to shed your purely human self and reawaken as the cosmic being that you are. Does this sound like more of the same for the star of the zodiac? It isn’t, this time you’ll have to go deeper within, look beyond the surface, put in the shadow work, and discover your power. If you undergo some deep challenge, it’s just part of this process. Hang in there, because you’re on a path that is going to make you a true force to be contended with.
Pisces
Pluto activates your Twelfth House, a place of hidden gifts and talents. You can collaborate with this transit by developing them, as you explore your: unconsciousness, intuition, dreams, spiritual practices, connections with angels, mysteries of past experiences or lives, secrets, and processes of healing and forgiveness. This may sound sweet, but it will take dedication and is apt to bring up some dark secrets or karmic adjustments. The process can be enriched by the Aquarian gift of study, through books and courses on these and related subjects, and via connections with cosmic-minded people. If you hang in there, you can end up as an expert sleuth, detective, wizard, or ghost-buster, and use your previously hidden gifts with prowess.
