On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, the Feast of the Epiphany, Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol to prevent Congress’ counting and certification of Joe Biden’s election victory, preparatory to his inauguration two weeks later. Doors were forced, windows broken, as insurrectionists fresh from a Trump rally mere blocks away which featured an in-person address from the President took control from Capitol Police and security, who offered minimal resistance to the crowd, estimated in the tens of thousands. The Senate and House were evacuated, put on lockdown, as legislators cowered in safe spaces or barricaded themselves in their offices to avoid the mob.
For hours rioters, some of them armed, roamed the halls of Congress, hanging from the walls, sitting in the Speaker’s chair, rummaging through desks and offices, leisurely filming their antics and taking selfies, before order was restored by a combination of Capitol Police, DC police, FBI agents and National Guard members. Tear gas and flashbang grenades were deployed; one woman was shot and killed.
This disgusting display was beamed live into homes across the nation and the world, brought to you by Donald J. Trump, who weeks before had tweeted an invitation to supporters to join him in Washington on January 6, promising the occasion would be “wild.” At the rally he exhorted them to march on the Capitol just down the street to protest the “stealing” of his electoral victory, a loss which had been validated, ratified, certified and endorsed by election officials, state legislatures, governors, and federal judges of both Parties over weeks of contentious challenges. Later, pressed by aides, Trump encouraged the rioters to leave peacefully, expressing his “love” for them, whom he characterized as “very special” people.
The day was marked by two Grand Cross alignments and a T-Square which tell much of the tale. Chaos in DC is ably depicted by asteroid Washingtonia, which at 21 Virgo had made its station just the day before, a still point in the sky upon which the chart revolves. Stationary points exert a pull on consciousness and wield a disproportionately large influence on events, becoming the focus of the period. All eyes were already trained on the capital for the formality of ratifying Joe Biden’s win, normally a pro forma act which garners little attention. But in the current atmosphere, this was likely to produce fireworks, and one wonders why Capitol Police were so ill-prepared for what ensued.
Washingtonia is squared by TNO Chaos at 26 Gemini, a point which indicates just what it sounds like – anarchy, pandemonium, disorder and confusion. In 2015 fellow GOP presidential nomination contender Jeb Bush had christened Donald Trump “the chaos candidate”, and rarely have truer words been spoken. Trump is a natural agent of Chaos, which squares his natal Sun and has been transiting his 22 Gemini Sun for the duration of his 2016 campaign and subsequent presidency. The attack on the Capitol is just the latest, and most egregious, assault on democratic norms and the rule of law perpetrated by this cosmic anarchist in “law and order” clothing.
Trump’s natal Sun/Moon polarity at 22 Gemini and 21 Sagittarius fits seamlessly into the Epiphany Coup’s first Grand Cross, which also incorporates Neptune at 18 Pisces and asteroid Senator at 19 Sagittarius (asteroid Whitehouse at 14 Sagittarius conjoins Senator and aspects two other points of the Grand Cross, but is too wide of Chaos to be a fully fledged member). Neptune adds additional energies of confusion and disorder, as well as firing the zealotry of the fanatical Trump supporters, while Senator obviously denotes the venue for part of the insurrection. Neptune further represents the lies and deception perpetuated by the President in his vain quest to retain power, the alternate reality imbibed by his followers, and the unhinged quality of Trump’s rants and assertions.
The other half of the Epiphany Coup’s venue is described by asteroid House, indicating the House of Representatives, which at 21 Cancer opposes both the Sun at 16 Capricorn and Pluto at 24 Capricorn, and forms a second Grand Cross with TNO Eris at 23 Aries conjunct Mars at 29 Aries, and the Moon in Libra. When the Congress was gaveled into session at 1:05 PM EST to count the Electoral College votes, spurring the riot, the Moon at 21 Libra was exactly squared House, then moved to 22 Libra for the majority of the rioting. Similarly, Mars ingressed into Taurus during the insurrection, at about 5:28 PM, just before the DC Mayor’s 6 PM curfew began, and as the crowds were thinning out, finally pushed back from the Capitol grounds by a determined, if sluggish, police line (in contrast, peaceful protestors were dislodged much more aggressively from Lafayette Park in June when the President wanted a path cleared to hold a Bible upside down in front of a church).
Eris represents discontented, aggrieved populations who feel themselves to be marginalized or disrespected; Mars is anger and acts of violence; Pluto rules criminal acts; and the Moon indicates the people, the masses. With House is asteroid Gosal at 17 Cancer, closest to Gosar, for Paul Gosar (R-AZ), the US Representative who raised the first challenge to the Electoral College tally, disputing Arizona’s votes. With Eris is asteroid Cruz at 18 Aries, for US Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), the senator who signed on to Gosar’s objection, making it official (also here is asteroid Spartacus at 19 Aries, named for the Roman gladiator who led a slave’s revolt). With the Sun and Pluto is asteroid Mobberly at 17 Capricorn, for the mob which attacked the Capitol. Also with the Sun, but too wide for the Grand Cross itself, is asteroid Toussaint at 10 Capricorn, named for Toussaint Louverture, the Haitian general who led a slave’s revolt against French rule in the 18th century.
Representative Paul Gosar is also represented celestially by asteroid Paul, which at 26 Virgo conjoins Washingtonia and ties to the Mutable Grand Cross. Paul is also slowing for its station, but will not turn retrograde until the day after the inauguration, at the following degree. Ted Cruz, whose given name is Rafael Edward Cruz, is further represented by asteroid Rafaelta at 19 Pisces, conjoined Neptune on the Mutable Grand Cross, and also by asteroid Eduarda, which at 14 Gemini opposes Whitehouse exactly, also opposed asteroid Senator, denoting Cruz’ alliance with Trump (Whitehouse), as well as the office he desecrates (Senator).
Also among those celestially nominated is Ashli Babbitt, the 35-year-old Air Force veteran and Trump supporter who lost her life in the melee, shot by a Capitol Police officer while invading Congress. Her fanatical affinity for Trump can be seen in asteroid Ashley, alternate spelling of Ashli, which at 15 Pisces conjoins Neptune and squares Whitehouse, and in asteroid Babette, closest match to Babbitt, which conjoins Whitehouse from 16 Sagittarius. Babette also cojoins Senator, with the Senate the venue for her demise. Ashli and Babette form a Thor’s Hammer, a fated pattern similar to a Yod, squared each other and both sesquiquadrate to asteroid Atropos at 1 Leo, named for the mythic Greek fate who severs the thread of life at death.
An additional factor in the energy of the day was Uranus at 6 Taurus, ruler of rebellion, revolt, riots and insurrection, squared asteroid America at 7 Aquarius, identifying the nation, as well as Jupiter at 4 Aquarius, enflaming the situation, and Saturn at 2 Aquarius, representing the legislature itself.
So where is Donald Trump in all this? Never fear, he’s right there, in the thick of it, like any good agent of Chaos. At 21 Taurus, asteroid Troemper, our celestial referent for The Donald, opposes asteroid Nemesis at 25 Scorpio and T-Squares Damocles at 24 Aquarius. Nemesis refers to ruin, destruction and undoing, often self-created. Already calls are going out for Trump’s removal from office before he can do further damage, so besides his role as nemesis to the nation and democracy in general, Trump’s actions here may have sown the seed of his own downfall.
Avenues available for his neutering included invocation of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment to suspend his powers, which required the participation of the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet. This did not happen, although Pence showed a degree of backbone in calling out the National Guard to clear the Capitol. The other possibility was an immediate impeachment proceeding, which also did not occur before Biden’s inauguration.
Is it possible that the Epiphany Coup has prompted a GOP epiphany about just how dangerous Donald Trump is? Troemper also conjoins TNO Sedna at 27 Taurus, a point which resonates to isolation, and many formerly stalwart supporters, from Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham, to Tom Cotton and the Vice President himself, spoke out against this action. Trump was able to complete his term, however, and while he has been impeached, his conviction is uncertain.
Damocles represents the doom hanging unseen overhead. With the President clearly telegraphing his intention not to accept an election loss for months in advance, and exhorting his followers to insurrection for weeks afterward, perhaps “unseen” is not quite the mot juste here, but Damocles indicates a looming threat nonetheless, which is just what Donald Trump still constitutes to the American Republic.
