December is a bittersweet month. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Sun is sinking lower and lower, and the days are growing shorter and shorter. The Suns rule of his half of the year is coming to an end, and farewells are always sad. The long shadows, the low, clear light, the decaying leaves, all have a poignancy which almost makes me cry. I light candles to try to hold onto the light. This season will come again next year, but it will never be the same. Life is never the same.
And yet all too soon, it is over. On Solstice, December 20, the Sun is reborn. The days begin to lengthen, and with the increasing light comes a new hope.
