Gemini, Sign of Relationship

Gemini, Sign of Relationship - Maya del Mar's Sun Signs

In Gemini, the sign of the twins, one becomes two. This is the first human symbol, and it shows how duality is the essence of humanity. We define our life on earth by such polarities as dark-light, up-down, in-out, good-evil, male-female. Twins relate to one another, as do these polarities. They play and share and perhaps fight together as they take turns expressing themselves.

Gemini, then, is a sign of relationship, of the interplay between discrete objects, people, or ideas. In Gemini the path to unity, to the common source, to our own centers of consciousness, is through the awareness of dualities, the playful movement with the world, the dance with the other.

During Gemini time we reorient. In Aries and Taurus we focused on self—on our own aspirations and our own desires. In Gemini we shift our focus to accommodate others in our world. We move from in to out and back in again. We socialize, we move around, we ask questions, we play with the world, we study, we exercise, we connect with the media. The world becomes a kaleidoscope of input and a treasure chest of playthings. For Gemini, variety is truly the spice of life. And it is through this continual stimulation that we develop consciousness.

Gemini rules the lungs, where we exchange air between inner and outer worlds. We breathe in Taurus’ gift, oxygen from her garden, and we breathe out carbon, the very nourishment which that garden, and the earth itself, need. Relationship thus becomes mutually nourishing when we are tuned into and cooperating with one another, when we are working partners in the grand dance of life.

Gemini is forever young and playful, for its secret wisdom is that everything has its place in the universe, that nothing is more important than anything else, and that it’s all interesting. Gemini connects with essence, and knows that the tiniest sparkling sequin has as much value as the diamond; the beggar as the king. Gemini is the ultimate democrat, ever fascinated by life in all its aspects, repelled by none. And needing to connect with it all spontaneously.

Gemini is a civilizing influence. It’s the essence of daily human life—its constant movement and give and take. The city is its milieu. What’s “happening” is vital. Gemini needs to keep current.

The nervous system, ideas, perceptions, and communication are associated with Gemini. This is the major path which we take to clarity and understanding. However, this same road can be riddled with doubt, confusion, undirected restlessness, and treadmill repetition of actions and ideas which may not be rooted in reality. MIND is Gemini’s active force. When not centered in higher guidance, the mind can be very tricky and destructive. The key is to remember that mind is but a tool to lead us home, like the yellow brick road.

Thoughts underlie actions. The best way to unlock the positive forces of Gemini is to emphasize our own positive thoughts. Like attracts like, and our participation in growth and healing during this time will draw in new wisdom and strength, expressed through a variety of connections in our everyday lives.

Gemini time points out our divisions, enhances our awareness, and stimulates our mind. Conflict—along with enjoyable learning opportunities—may thus be stirred up. Instead of playing into the conflict, we can use its dramatizations as special opportunities for healing splits. Gemini is one of the major healing signs, with unique abilities to work with mind, hands, feet, general coordination, and auric fields.

It is relating that makes the world go round. In its constant focus on making connections, Gemini has perhaps the greatest opportunity of any sign to be an effective force for spiritual upliftment. Its challenge is to identify with spirit as central authority, then focus its perceptive power into life to clear away distortions and negativity. Gemini will reveal imbalances, and thus provide special opportunities for reform. (It is important not to get caught up with the problems and limitations which are also exposed.)

Our associative powers are most active during Gemini time. As a result, we can key into many many ideas. However, if we are not connected with spirit, mammoth confusion can be the result.

To use these ideas productively, it is important to center ourselves, to stay in the present, and to allow our higher selves to guide us.

Gemini is versatile and multi-talented. Many interesting and talented people were born during Gemini season. Just a few examples are Michael J. Fox, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Bob Dylan, Benny Goodman, John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and both of GW’s parents, the elder Bushes.

In the United States chart, Gemini is a dominant sign. This is very apparent in our qualities as a people, such as our youthful exuberance and our emphasis on youth, ingenuity, restlessness, friendliness, innate sense of democracy, casualness, busyness, splits in values and splits between what we say and what we do. We are heavily involved with the media in all forms, and in all forms of communication—computers, Fax machines, copiers, cell phones, sending things hither and yon as quickly as possible. Gemini is the trader par excellence, and merchandising, commercializing everything, and “free trade” are tops on the nation’s agenda. Highways and automobiles are ruled by Gemini, and they dominate the nation. In everyday life we experience the variety of the Geminian human melting pot, with all its conflicts, vitality, and opportunities. The two-party system, with the parties very similar, as with twins, is Geminian.

Walt Whitman, who was born with the sun moving through Gemini, is often considered our national poet. He spent his days walking around, interacting with the passing scene, and noting it in his little pocket notebook, very Geminian. He then connected those daily observations with spirit as it spoke through him, and created poetry (often called the “divine language”—and Gemini rules language) which speaks to the common person. Here are a few of his lines which express the essence of Gemini:

There was a child went forth every day
And the first object he looked upon and received with wonder
Or pity or love or dread that object he became.

I believe in you my soul.
The other I am must not abase itself to you,
And you must not be abased to the other.

Geminian Ralph Waldo Emerson, our nation’s most eminent philosopher, wrote a poem with a Gemini title, and lines which describe Gemini. In “Each and All” he wrote:

All are needed by each one,—
Nothing is fair or good alone.

Gemini is associated with The Lovers card in the Tarot deck.

Words are Gemini’s forte. Perhaps our greatest challenge now is to use words to reclaim our spiritual power.

As you know, this is just so lovely, so true, so Maya. I always have felt I knew/know her and her beautiful daughters who just allow her wisdom and incite to flow on as it twines with their own. This is also the description of my own beautiful daughter as she goes. Many Blessings on you.
