At any Full Moon time, there’s tension between the Sun in one sign and the illuminated Moon in its opposite. The call is to find balance. With the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity, the challenge is to remain neither lost in the weeds, nor overly confident about what’s universally true.
The May 23 lunation highlights some lovely, harmonious aspects. The Moon is trine (about 120 degrees) to Neptune and sextile (60 degrees) to Pluto, speaking to power and vision in Sagittarian realms of seeking wisdom. The Gemini Sun has formed a close, air element trine with Pluto in Aquarius: whatever you want to research and communicate right now is given a big boost.
Gemini and Sagittarius are both mutable/changeable signs that highlight learning, speech, wisdom and faith. Also prominent at this Full Moon, though, is the stellium of Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, and Uranus, all now in the fixed earth sign Taurus. This is a Full Moon graced by the groundedness of Taurus, which is guided by Venusian drives for aesthetic beauty and partnerships.
The tightest aspect on May 23 is the nearly exact conjunction between Venus and Jupiter, known in ancient astrology as the two “benefic” planets. Bestowing love, abundance, and inspiration, Venus and Jupiter are now traveling together through the last few minutes of the last, 29th, degree of Taurus.
Astrology is based largely on the metaphysics of a circle, with its 360 degrees. Twelve signs occupy 30 degrees each, beginning with the open-ended possibilities of the 0 degree, and ending with the 29th, called the anaretic degree. The last, anaretic, degree of any sign is considered a jumping off point, a last hurrah, before a planet moves to the part of the sky occupied by the next sign.
Venus travels quickly, close to the Sun, changing signs often in a year. Jupiter is further out from the Sun, travels more slowly, and changes signs only about once a year. On May 25, in one of the major transits of 2024, Jupiter will shift from Taurus to Gemini. Where Jupiter travels for about a year at a time, there lie opportunities galore.
Blessings for the Sagittarius Full Moon, and with prayers for peace!
