Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That is how the light gets in.
~Leonard Cohen
As you might expect from the quirky, rebellious Year of the Wild Horse, the last month of 2014 will go out with a bang, not a whimper. But this time it’s more like fireworks or a son et lumiere display lighting up your inner landscape rather than a detonation that blows up your world.
Soul Retrieval
As December begins, the path we’ve recently walked through November’s many soul challenges, psychic excavations and reality checks is blocked by a bonfire—the bonfire of our vanities. Believe it or not, this is Saturn in Scorpio’s parting gift—the vision to clearly see our own fingerprints all over our personal history. During the eclipses with a retrograde Mercury, the Wooden Horse galloped through our defenses, pretences, beliefs and illusions, scattering them to the four winds. It all came tumbling down. That’s what’s smouldering on the bonfire. The gift is that we have a chance to find some reciprocity with our Karma by seeing it, getting it and taking responsibility for it. Now we can walk away free and clear into December’s astrology.
December is all about soul retrieval—collecting and synthesising all the fragmented parts of ourselves that were abandoned, neglected or orphaned. With the Black Sun alone at the very end of Scorpio and five planets in Sagittarius, it is time to rekindle our soul flame on the phoenix pyre of personal resurrection.
Before us lies the landscape of Sagittarius, the plains and mountains ruled by Jupiter, the Hierophant, and during the first three weeks up to the Solstice on December 21, we can write new stories and myths, firing our arrows of intention far into our future time-lines into 2015.
Feel the shamanic feminine energy rising as Chiron stations to turn direct, ready to refract quantum awareness at the Full Moon on December 6. We can feel our entanglement in the Great Web as a Grand Trine in Fire between Venus, Jupiter, Lilith and Uranus flares our own light in a vast sea of seven billion souls.
With Chiron is Chariklo, a shape-shifter seeing beyond material reality to the resonant web of connection. This graceful Spinner is now aligned with the Galactic Centre at 24 degrees Sagittarius. As first Venus, then Mercury, then the Sun cross her path in early December, we will feel the space/time continuum expanding as our minds are stretched and rearranged into new patterns.
Since October 2012, Saturn and Pluto have been in a once-in-250-years mutual reception. This means that Saturn has been in Pluto’s sign of Scorpio at the same time as Pluto is in Saturn’s sign of Capricorn. These two powerful archetypes have been working in tandem to eradicate outworn programming, ready to sow the seeds of the new and revolutionary.
The Pluto/Uranus Square on December 15 is at 12 degrees of Capricorn/Aries, bringing a quickening in the fight for freedom. The waxing square is attempting to birth the baby that was conceived in 1965/6 at the Pluto/Uranus conjunction. Despite the sixties counterculture’s stance for equality, the fight against slavery, discrimination of gender and race, political corruption and war is reaching new levels of violence, unrest and repression.
Then on December 23, Saturn becomes the torch-bearer of faith and light in Sagittarius until 2017.
On December 22, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Vesta and Venus form a conjunction with Pluto at the Capricorn New Moon on the World Axis, lifting the veil, burning away the dross and opening of the doors of karma via the ruler Saturn. You will be ready to climb the mountain as an initiate. The tenth sign, ruled by Saturn, is deeply occult and its essential component is the resurrection of substance via loving activity.
The Chandra Symbol for CAPRICORN 1
A canopy bed with curtains.
Standing on the inside of life. Protected and guarded, guided and led. Held fast. The observer or witness empowered to prevail-able to see, to realise, to comprehend the mysteries. Clairvoyance. Keenly sensing and viewing meaning and value, purpose and spirit backbone. So very strongly and steadily directed from within that there is no outer, there is nothing to do. Instead, you center yourself and align with who you truly are and stalwartly remain in the place of authority and power and inward truth as your statement and the only thing you know.
Saturn in Sagittarius
December 24, 2014 – December 21, 2017
This year, the Solstice, which always brings a change of energy from Yin to Yang, is marked by the Ringed Planet moving from a Fixed to Mutable sign, from Water to Fire. Think back to between November 16, 1985 and February 13, 1988—those dates bracket the last time that the Lord of Time and Karma was in Sagittarius. What was the big theme in your life back then? What did you learn the hard way? How did you grow up?
Only the expression of eternal truths will cut it. Your beliefs, values and actions are your truth. Are you living them out day by day? Or is there a gap between what you profess and what you do? Do you follow your own North Star or do you seek external validation? It’s time to see the big picture, the forest instead of the trees, the proverbial Moon instead of the finger. Anyone with personal planets or Ascendant in mutable signs—Gemini/ Virgo/ Sagittarius/ Pisces—will be strongly impacted by this transit and will experience it more intensely because of the square/opposition pattern Saturn is going to form to their planets or angles.
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.
~Emily Dickinson
