Terence McKenna
Creation Consciousness
Between 2011- 2014 there have been unprecedented close encounters of the third kind with the outer planets—especially Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. These archetypes, which have the power to change the zeitgeist, have simultaneously been reaching down into our individual lives, transforming and dissolving old distinctions between mind, body and soul. The Cardinal Grand Cross created bridges into a new consciousness that synthesised previous polarities, then at the end of August, the inner planets Venus, Mercury and Mars connected to Jupiter, Neptune and Saturn. The astrology of September is about mastering the shift of our entire Operating System, from head to your heart—from planning, shaping and controlling to opening, listening and feeling. Going way beyond the old dualistic head or heart model, this is a wholly new creation consciousness where we’re learning to pull the future into the present. This process anchors in the heart and perceives as a witness through the Ajna, or 3rd eye. As Lauren Gorgo says so cogently:
“Our brains were originally designed to serve as the search engines to our heart’s (keyword) commands…if we don’t know what’s in our hearts, our brains don’t know what to compute, what to look for. An unfocused heart will result in an unfocused search…ie information overload, overwhelm and the inability to make clear choices. We just aren’t wired that way any more.”
It’s about opening to a different type of energy flow, about practicing the art of earthing, grounding, connecting, magnetizing the energy body battery through activating Qi. If you are dealing with more than the usual dose of spaciness, dizziness, cloudy confusion, mental overload, overwhelm, inability to focus, lack of computation/comprehension, or anything of the sort, you are officially going out of your mind…and fully into your heart.
The Alchemy of Lead into Lightning
September’s astrology starts with lead and iron and ends with lightning, from a Mars-Saturn conjunction in alchemical Scorpio through September 13 to a crackling electric Jupiter-Uranus trine on September 25. The Sun in mutable earthy Virgo is the bridge between these two modalities—the one heavily kinaesthetic and sensation-based, and the other feeling, sensing and intuitive.
Esoterically, the sign of Virgo and the Sixth House reveal the techniques, approaches and practices that we must undergo to heal from the dross of karma. This is done through the alchemy of synthesis. Our awareness will be drawn to the dangers of spiritual inflation, thinking that our beliefs make us better people. Chogyam Trungpa defines spiritual materialism as: “a distorted, ego-centred version of spirituality; we can deceive ourselves into thinking we developing spiritually when instead we are strengthening our egocentricity though spiritual techniques.”
In the West, this has become a very seductive illusion since the discovery of Chiron in 1977 flooded our consciousness with previously secret doctrines and information, now instantly available at a keystroke. It plays into the materialist trap of being special, seeking perfection, of becoming better, of looking outside. The antidote is what Carl Jung described as the goal of human development—wholeness, not perfection. To become whole is a process of making peace with our entire selves: masculine and feminine, light and dark, spiritual and material, adult and child, etc.
Whereas perfection tends to elevate one aspect of the personality over another—divine over human, head over heart, male over female—wholeness seeks the integration and union of opposites within our personality. The path of wholeness is a grounding process, engaging our whole being, and does not reject any part of our humanity. Whereas perfection embraces our ideals and aspirations, wholeness seeks the awareness and maturation of the total self. The path towards wholeness grounds us by tempering our expectations with compassion and a thoughtful recognition of our own and others’ humanness.
This is the theme of the Pisces Full Moon on September 9, which is tightly conjunct Chiron, the crystal bridge between the inner and outer planets, orbiting between Saturn and Uranus. With Venus in Virgo opposite Neptune in Pisces this Super Moon is a reminder of the inseparability of body and mind, heart and soul. The Moon forms a Grand Water Trine with Juno and Ceres, flooding us with the instincts to trust our heart center and to let go of what is unhealthy.
The end of a seven-month incubation period is marked by Mars leaving Scorpio for Sagittarius on September 14, the Equinox on the September 22, Pluto turning direct on September 23 (September 22 in the US), and a palpable shift from mutable to cardinal energy at the Libra New Moon on September 24.
Lightning Strikes
September’s big turning point occurs on September 25/26, when Jupiter makes a trine to Uranus lasting several weeks. This is a preview of an inspiring Grand Trine in Fire activated on October 8 at the Lunar eclipse by Mars, Jupiter and Uranus—a holy trinity of the archetypes of action, wisdom and higher consciousness.
This trine thrives on change, novelty and new inventions. Look out for visionaries and inventors who will make impossible dreams come true. Anyone plugging into to this fire trine will have extra-strong faith in future rainbows. This will keep them focused on doing whatever it takes to get to that pot of gold resulting in medical, space and technological breakthroughs. Both Uranus and Jupiter are about freedom. Jupiter as traditional religion could also benefit from Uranus’ enlightening influence. This trine may bring a reinterpretation of what religion means, which could shatter our belief systems. The October 8 Lunar Eclipse at 15° Aries falls right in the middle of this and is conjunct the Uranus part of the Fire Grand Trine.
