In 2013 there are five instead of the usual four eclipses, making this spring season very intense. Adding to the pressure for change with a capital C, the third Pluto/Uranus exact square on May 20 provides the filling in an eclipse sandwich. Mark these dates in your diary plus or minus 2 weeks

- May 20, 3rd Pluto/Uranus square at 11 degrees Capricorn/Aries
- May 25, Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse at 4 degrees Sagittarius/Gemini

Global and Personal Eclipses
Eclipses occur in groups or family series called the Saros Cycle. Each series has 70 or so eclipses spread over 1000 years, starting at one of the poles and coiling round twice like a serpent to end at the opposite pole. At any one time, there are around 42 Saros series active, washing over the globe. Each Saros series has a birth chart which imprints on to the individual eclipses showing mundane or worldly activity. This signature predicts the sort of events to be anticipated on a global level.
Taurus Solar Eclipse May 10
May 10’s Solar eclipse belongs to the Saros 138 South15 series which started at the South Pole in 1472 and will end in 2716.Bernadette Brady in her book The Eagle and the Lark says:
“This series is about release of tension. A situation which has been lingering will suddenly clear. In the clearing of the problem there is also a sense of grief or loss, which is not so much personal but belonging to the collective”.
At the last eclipse in this series in 1995, there was there was the Oklahoma City bombing and the Unabomber, killing hundreds of families and police officers.
To understand the impact of this eclipse at an individual level, we focus on the chart itself, rather than the Saros signature. This is a Solar eclipse, a New Moon starting a whole new cycle wherever 19 Taurus falls in your chart. Solar eclipses can put you in reaction mode, which is why it’s better not to make important decisions just before or just after the date itself. It conjuncts the South Node, which reveals an area of potential vulnerability along with some inconvenient truths!
If you have planets or angles near 19 degrees Scorpio/Taurus, this is a very significant eclipse for you which is likely to coincide with important developments.
The New Moon in Taurus is about returning us to our senses-literally and figuratively. Aiding this process are Sedna, Pallas, Mercury and Mars. We’ll be reminded yet again about the urgency of integrating masculine and feminine energies, about creativity and strategy making. Ceres opposite Pluto and Juno square the Nodes underlines the need to reclaim alienated and repressed feminine power. The Sabian symbol for the New Moon at 19 degrees Taurus tells us: – ”Wisps of wing like clouds streaming across the sky; the awareness of spiritual forces at work.”

Third Uranus/Pluto square May 20, 2013
Sandwiched between the Solar and Lunar eclipses of May comes the third of 7 squares between 2012-2015 involving the most powerful planetary pairing of all, Uranus and Pluto. As each of these outer planets moves so slowly, the effect is akin to tectonic plates grinding against each other, setting off unprecedented changes at a global level. The first exact square was on June 24, 2012 and the fourth will occur on November 1, 2013, right on the 11 Scorpio Solar eclipse. Think change to the power of ten! This square falls on Aldebaran, suggesting religious conflict and the fight to the death for your own beliefs. As both of these planetary big hitters enter the second decan of their respective signs, they will deepen their influence on a concrete level.
Unlike most transits, the momentum for evolution and revolution created by the Great Awakener and the Great Eliminator is constant, undermining the status quo below the radar for the whole three years of the transit and beyond. Change is the new normal—personally, politically, economically and culturally. Given its timing between a Solar and Lunar eclipse across the Taurus/Scorpio axis, it’s likely that the world’s financial markets will experience more crises and upheavals, sending our already fragile economic systems close to collapse. Such situations as the banks in Cyprus taking customers’ savings, 27% of Spaniards unemployed and the poverty in Greece would have been unimaginable a few years ago. The charts of China and the USA will be impacted by this third square, continuing the trend towards China replacing America as economic world leader. Our reliance on oil will be challenged by political upheavals and bids for control.
By now, you will be familiar with where 9-13 degrees Aries/Capricorn are being awakened in your life. Look to the Aries/Capricorn areas of your chart or reflect on what you have suppressed or neglected the longest. That’s where you stop resisting and let the chips fall where they may.

Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse May 25, 2013
This penumbral eclipse is the last of the mutable Gemini/Sagittarius eclipses which began in March 2012, not to return until 2028.For those of you who are solar Pisces/Gemini/Virgo/Sagittarius between 2-6 degrees of the sign, this is the last ripple of the big personal upheavals until 2021
As with everything else in astrology, it’s a mistake to look at any one event in isolation. This eclipse cuts to the heart of what happened to you last year on and around June 4. It’s also the third of three eclipses in a sign transition. Mutable signs are always about moving from what is to what might be. They are birthed out of fixed signs then flickered into life by cardinal signs. The eclipsed Full Moon is squared by Neptune in a mutable T square, bringing opportunities for breakthroughs and shifts in consciousness, amplifying the on-going crises of transformation brought by the Pluto/Uranus square.
Fortunately there is a stabilising trine from Neptune to Saturn giving a reality check. This is structure supporting the fluidity of Neptunian downloads. Your Inner Mystic aligns with your Master Teacher, so pay attention! With a trine from the South Node of Fate to Pluto, it should be easier than usual to divest yourself of old self-sabotaging behaviours and habits. If we are used to waiting for signs and synchronicities from the “universe” to move us into action, we will find ourselves remaining in the stillness of the unmanifest instead. Without the application of spiritual will, there is no movement and so it’s tempting to think that without our command, nothing is working for us … when in fact, everything is working exactly as we intend. We have all learned (the hard way) that the only thing we ever wait for is ourselves … to show up and take ownership of the power of our command.

China replace US as Economic leader? God forbid. Not quite ready to erase all progress made in the area of human rights. Do not underestimate the US. Granted the Chinese are major players, but no one envies their rank and file lifestyle. When the next cheaper source of labor emerges or their labor force demands a living wage, they too could be upset. The one change I see down the pike is an end to all of the political correctness. (Pluto death and regeneration) and a return astrologically to 1776 government for the people, by the people shall not perish.( Capricorn responsibility.) The one upset I see is end to the two party system and emergence not of China, but a third independent party. Time to spring clean!
Well, it’s hard to conceive of a mixture of Uranus and Pluto, since Aquarius, ruled by Uranus, squares Scorpio, ruled by Pluto, and so these energies are rather conflicted. How much more so when they are in square. I t hink it relates to rebellions by the masses overthrowing governments and power structures, such as happened last year in the “Arab Spring.” Who will be overthrown in the near future? These planets make an uneasy mix. In l963, Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in Virgo, and John F. Kennedy got shot. That was a kind of coup e’etat or overthrowing. It also marked the overthrowing of the status quo of the servile classes in the US, namely, blacks, as you had the Civil Rights Movement back then, and then the Civil Rights Bill passed by Johnson’s Administration, after JFK was killed. But now, this Uranus/Pluto square from Aries to Capricorn afflicts the US natal sun in Cancer 13 degrees. Hard times for the US? I wish some of these plutocracies, secret societies, and special interest groups in the US would be overthrown. The US natal Pluto in Capricorn indicates to me that power in the US government lies in the hands of secret societies, the first of which was, of course, the Masons.
