The Planetary Overview provides an overview and synthesis of the month as a whole.

Daykeeper's August 2014 General Monthly Influences

by Terry Lamb

August is all about the Fixed Signs, and a whole new set of ideas emerges from the mists for our consideration. Memories come with these ideas, and our challenge is to “straighten out” our understanding of what happened at the times these memories were created. This will allow us to move forward with our plans for turning dreams into reality. With a little detective work, we can avoid repeating old mistakes and get through these rapids safe and dry.

We’re still working with Saturn in Scorpio, and we have another year of that. However, we’re well on our way to realizing our plans for a more meaningful life. We know what’s coming into form, and although we are eagerly seeking the carrot, we haven’t reached the end of the stick yet. We have a little work to do, but after all the time of being inactive, we want that now.

The emphasis in Fixed brings back other times when Fixed energies were strong. One of those was August 1999. There was a Grand Cross with Jupiter and Saturn in Taurus, Mars in Scorpio, and Uranus-Neptune in Aquarius. The personal planets in Leo completed the box around the heavens, highlighted by Venus retrograde.

Relationships were our top priority then, so start your recollective process there. What happened then is a prequel to what is occurring now. With this as a backdrop, we feel a huge urge to act where perhaps we hesitated then. We are ready to go forward, to take a risk we have learned since then to take.

This makes us very busy. As Mars heads toward Saturn, an event which occurs on August 25, we are stretching ourselves to finish up what needs tying off in order to clear things out for our new life. Whether that means a big or a small change in this moment, this process is part of a larger transformation that everyone is experiencing. What we do now creates the foundation for that larger change.

We feel good about it—soaring at times in fact. With Sun and Jupiter in Leo and Mercury and Venus in overlapping transits through Leo, all our faculties are activated—first desire and a call to action, then understanding and a plan, finally gratification—something that fills the heart.

The Mars-Saturn conjunction is already a big influence for us to use as we will, but there’s another layer of activity, another story line that via the whispers of inner voices ties to August 1999, as well as to events of the autumns of the past three years.

That’s when we encountered an obstacle in our relationship life, a disappointment. There has been a square of Venus and Mars near the same degree (19°–23°) in Leo and Scorpio each year starting in 2011. Track back to what was going on around October 26, 2011, September 27, 2012, and September 28, 2013 for clues to the solution of your investigation, a clear insight about what needs to change.

If there’s a carryover situation for you, it’s time to rework the previous outcomes to find a new solution. If you’re dealing with completely new circumstances, look for the same theme in them as you experienced then. You’ll have a new outcome, and a way forward where things were blocked before. Saturn is involved in this, it will take things to a deeper level, and there will be plenty of activity, with all the of planets that open the doors of manifestation—Moon, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn—involved.

Another peak comes at the Full Mercury that arrives on August 8. Coming as it does just before the Full Moon, it is carried on the crest of the moon's wave, and the knowledge that comes to us at this time can also carry us over the hurdles to come. The Full Moon itself occurs at 19°, the same as the complex square that comes on August 25.

This means that events starting around August 8 will cascade in a story thread that carries through the rest of the month in an unbroken stream. We’ll see a shift on/after August 25, since this is the New Moon, but the story will play out through the challenges and resolutions of the new lunar month.

As the personal planets drift into Virgo, we move toward a healing emphasis. While this starts once Mercury enters Virgo on August 15, it reaches a peak of inner awareness as Mercury opposes Neptune on the August 18, and Chiron on August 24. The Sun reaches its opposition to Neptune on August 29 to give us the yearly overview of our process of healing deep karmic and ancestral wounds.

This opportunity to heal has never been more favorable. We have the angst of a build-up of tension coupled with the soothing energies of healing release. This comes by grace of a Saturn trine to Chiron via the healing process of Pisces-Scorpio, the last of five that have come through for us in the past two years. What happens now is a culmination of a journey to wholeness that we commenced then, related to previous wounds.

We will come through August with our life and circumstances much changed. We will understand more. We will be able to see further into the future and begin to make longer-range choices and plans. A structure is emerging.
