Midpoints: Identify & Integrate
Midpoints Into Horoscope Synthesis (Special
Topics in Astrology), by
Don McBroom. Llewellyn Publications, 211pp,
June 2007.
Don McBroom has written a scholarly tome on a subject
that all serious astrology students must consider in any chart analysis
to get the full picture of what the person or entity is all about.
A midpoint is a point between two planets or two angles in the chart
and can add depth and layers of meaning to the astrologer’s
interpretation of the relationship between the two.
In this textbook, Mr. McBroom goes over different
ways identifying and integrating midpoints. He shows us how to set
up midpoint sorts or trees to more easily identify the less easily
seen midpoints. He
suggests orbs of influence that work in his
analyses and he explains in detail how to interpret the midpoint.
Mr. McBroom uses equations and keywords to establish
a direct, quick picture of the relationship and form a skeleton for
the reading that can then be expanded on. He uses many examples of
famous people and explains in detail how the midpoint meaning is
integrated into this person’s life using their work, quotes
from them, and examples of events in their lives.
He debates how the Aries Point, the Focal Point, and
unaspected planets fit into the analysis. He discusses Transits, Progressions, and
Solar Arcs to midpoints as well as special aspect structures and their
midpoint pictures. He provides guidelines and worksheets for
unknown birth times as well as for the midpoints
themselves.
This book is a well thought out, thorough introduction
to a very important tool in chart analysis and will be useful to serious
and more advanced students of astrology.
