Michael Moore

by Maya del Mar

Michael MooreMichael Moore was born on April 23, 1954 in—you guessed it—Flint, Michigan. I don’t know his time, but because of his fame I set the chart for high noon. He looks as if he could well have Taurus rising.

Michael does have his Sun in earthy Taurus. It conjoins Vesta, which shows his groundedness and practicality, and the dedicated focus of his work, with which he identifies. Sun has a harmonious and creative trine with Moon in Capricorn, another earth sign. This adds to his practical, common sense nature, and gives it ambition as well. Mars in Capricorn conjoining Moon provides energy, persistence, and capacity for hard work. Mars trine Vesta in earth signs gives him unparalleled focus in his work. Success is no fluke for him. Someone once said that "success is hard work, hard work, and more hard work." This is Michael’s path.

Opposite his Sun, Michael has Saturn in Scorpio. Saturn here represents the secretive, power-hungry, manipulative authorities who pit themselves against the Taurean common person. Saturn in Scorpio also gives Michael super-sleuth abilities. Saturn squares Transpluto in Leo, and Michael believes that this corrupt power structure—Saturn—can be resuscitated.

Michael feels that honest information can accomplish this job. His Mercury is in the idealistic and pioneering sign of Aries. Aries is also a child, open and naïve. Many of us have that quality as well, and Michael enables us to identify with him, as he innocently approaches the big corporate world.

This Mercury in Aries hits a chord in the U.S. psyche, for it is conjunct the U.S. Chiron (read more about the U.S. Chiron here), carrier of the hero archetype. Michael is another kind of hero. He is the common person hero, as he simply asks for relevant information and then uses his common sense to put it into perspective. That is the kind of hero that many of us want to be. "Just the facts, Ma’am," as they used to say on Dragnet.

Michael’s Mercury very closely squares his Moon’s Nodes, which shows that using this Mercury, his communication abilities, is his path of destiny. North Node is in Capricorn, the sign of government and business. Capricorn also means success within existing social structures, and Michael has to square that with his outspoken Aries Mercury. This he has done, splendidly, with the help of his South Node conjoining Uranus, the rebel. His South Node, his place of familiarity, is in Cancer, the sign of comfortable home and family. In his films, Michael always returns to Flint, where he grew up.

Here is the kicker. Michael was born while Chiron was traveling through Capricorn, as it is now. His Chiron conjoins the U.S. Pluto. The U.S. Pluto in Capricorn, sign of the power structure, represents the nation’s plutocracy. Michael’s Chiron is right there, disrupting it. And thereby allowing healing to occur. Transiting Chiron will be at this same degree during most of 2005, signifying the birth of a new Chiron cycle for Michael.

At this time (during 2005) the U.S. begins a new Pluto-Chiron cycle. A Pluto-Chiron conjunction was the keynote energy for ushering in the new millennium. This conjunction occurred at 12 Sagittarius, on the U.S. Ascendant. We will see something of the promise of that conjunction next year.

Michael is not a flash in the pan, and I expect his influence to grow as we continue through these turbulent times.
